Some manufacturers will repair grey market here in the US, such as Canon and some Nikon items, but, they won't honor the non-USA warranty. You have to pay the going rate. I don't know what Sony's policy is regarding grey.
Some grey market is sold by reputable dealers that offer store warranties. Perhaps your best bet, if the savings warrant it.
Just be careful. Quite a few outlets offer great prices that turn out to be scams. Check out the outlet before buying.
Actually, Nikon will honor an over seas warranty if the item was purchased while the owner was physically there. For instance, If I purchased a Nikkor Lens while I was on Vacation in Germany, all and the lens was still under the European Warranty (European Warranty is for 1 year vs the USA 5 year) then I would provide a copy of my hotel bill in Germany as proof that I was physically there when I purchased the lens. Then, I would get it repaired in the USA under the European Warranty. This also means that once it is out of warranty, I could still get it repaired at a USA facility. Nikon also keeps a database of serial numbers so that once the item was submitted and accepted, you will (should) not have to provide that proof again for that particular serial number.
I traveled a lot for my military service, so I gave Nikon a copy of my orders on any particular trip along with a copy of the invoice covering the item and made sure that the date on the invoice was in the time period on the orders.
Also, when I was in the military, I found that Nikon Cameras sold in the BX (base exchange) PX (post exchange) were usually US imports which meant that I didnt have to worry about US warranties.
Take a look on B&H Photo and Adorama. They are good and their people are quite helpfull. I have purchased most of my equipment over there. (Nikon D300 and D750) Also purchased several lenses from them and never had any problems. Make sure that if you buy a "Grey Market" lens, don't forget to get with the store's one year warranty and for that both B&H and Adorama are very serious places that you can trust.

How about buying a used lens from b & H, Adorama, etc. I have purchased all my lens used and never had a problem. Just a thought.
since they pricematch online still use the international model google search most best buy sales associates will not know the difference resulting in a substantial savings for you
Have you thought about buying a "used" lens from a lens rental outfit? Less $ than new and in good to excellent condition. Although there are others, I've dealt with and have been happy with

That one from B&H is the f/4 version & NOT Grey Market; the $2600 one is the f/2.8 version, also NOT Grey Market. B&H
ALWAYS shows the "grey market" stuff as being INTERNATIONAL

To resolve the warranty issue, get personal property insurance for your camera, lenses, and major accessories. I have a policy with State Farm and it's very reasonably priced if you're not a pro. You can even cover computer gear. No deductible, no depreciation, repair, replace for loss. If repairs are over 80% of purchase price, they have the option to replace it.

True, and we've seen that question here many times. Nikon is reasonable.

Cameras and lenses (For the most part) that are imported into the country by other then official channels, such as Canon, USA. Nothing illegal and the products are identical quality-wise. They just don't have a USA warranty. They will have an international warranty, a regional warranty, or a seller's warranty. Can make getting repairs under warranty an issue and with some manufacturers, such as Nikon, even non-warranty repairs can be a problem. For many people, the savings is worth the risk. For others, it is not.

I think the dreaded "Grey Market" has a life of its own. Some may think the product is made in some dusty basement. It is not. Nor is there any difference in the quality of the product. There is not. It's all about the warranty, not the quality.
So if the warranty is not a problem for you look for a grey market product. Some camera stores sell a grey market product. I think B&H may be one of them.
B&H even says that used items may be Grey market The advice of buying used is a good one. "Square Deal" is an insurance outfit that is offered with used gear.
Most people on this forum will tell you not to buy Gray Market. They certainly could be right. But, I have purchased two Bridge cameras Gray Market from Amazon and both are wonderful purchases. No problems. Maybe just "lucky me??
On the other hand what camera equipment have you ever purchased that you had to get warranty repair on during the first year? ? According to Square Trade Warranty Co. the incident of first year repairs is less than 1.2% of camera equipment purchased. Odds certainly are seriously in your favor!!
