It looks OK but if you really want to get rid of it you could clone it out. Zoom in an the sun area and clone some of the branches onto it. You could even reduce the effect to make the bright spot a fraction of what it is.

I'm a new member and novice with an old version of PhotoshopCS 8. I'm recently retired and now have the time to try to learn more about shooting and editing. I'm thankful to have the opportunity to consult the talent on uglyhedgehog. I feel like the sun popping through the trees is distracting. Any suggestions on how to fix that? Also any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
I guess you must be referring to PSE, because there never has been a CS 8, CS went as far as CS6 and after that went straight to CC!
Actually I would alter the image and put a full sun there .....

The sun does draw my eye that way, but I don't believe it is a distraction..very nice picture
Thank you. How do I tell what version I have? The welcome screen says AdobePhotoshop CS. When I click on "system info" the first 3 lines say:
Adobe Photoshop Version: 8.0 (8.0x118)
Operating System: Windows NT
Version: 6.2

Quick 'play' in Lightroom......still very much a learner/novice tho so be gentle! :)
I like the way that looks. What tools did you use?
Lightroom to lighten up the stairs/steps....P/shop to remove the foliage to the left
And...thank you snyderbob :)
Whoa! I might do that too. But I'm not quite ready for that. I hope to be someday. Thanks for the reply.
I agree - it's part of the composition. I'd just try and bring out the shadows just a bit.

I actually think it is quite nice. Not distracting at all to me. Adds to the composition.

Pretty shot. Agree with others.
I tend to look for a stronger point of interest as well as irregular lines, converging, vanishing points, eye leading, dynamics, emotional content. What is this picture saying, does it tell a story.
The woodwork and light reflecting off the bridge is what is unique. So, another way to do something given the existing shot angle would be something like this. Ditto on photoshopping out the weeds on the left and the floating thing in the water and the shadow bushes and grass stems on the inner bridge siding. Bugs or flying things around the sunset by the foliage. Could use a few seagulls.. . . . (just kidding).
As for the sun. I might have actually shot more into it to create a bit of drama. Polarizer and a ND filter.
There are so many possibles and you took a great shot. Everyone would process and crop it differently.
Thanks for posting.

I didn't notice the sun until you mentioned it. I would consider removing the post sticking out of the water. Pretty sunset.
