Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst.”
― Henri Cartier-Bresson
If this is true and I believe it is...
Some may think that shutter count over this number in today's digital cameras may make them appear to have arrived at photographer greatness...
Just for fun
In my case, I think the number is more like 50,000, but I am only at 40,000 so I have a way to go.

Does the counter reset each year? My stuff is always better in Oct/Nov/Dec than it is in Jan/Feb/Mar.
No wonder I never like HCB images.

Nison, though there is truth to that, I don’t buy it for a second!
It could be argued that in anything we do that we never stop learning, so if that’s true, every next shot is better than our last shot. Using that logic every shot we just took is our worst, be it 10K or 100K shots.
Does a brain surgeon need to perform 10M operations to be good enough?
A home run slugger will be to old to hit any more to reach his full potential!!!
And where does talent fit in???
Check out this post of mine from a few years ago. Thanks

I don't think that I have taken 10,000 pics in my entiire life. I guess all my photos have been stinkers, that explains a lot. I don't have to make excuses any more, I'll just quote Cartier-Bresson. My sincerest thanks

And speed up the process by shooting everything in burst mode!
Thanks.
That was my second thought when I decided to present the fun question.
I get people bragging about the number of images on their hard drives at times thinking this will impress me.
I had originally supposed that running the camera in burst mode may in their minds speed up the creative skill process.
At times some of you may encounter this kind of logic.. as well as the brand and price of their equipment being a proof of ability...
This craft is a life long journey with many successes and challenges.

I wonder if he thought that applied to himself. I certainly does not apply to me. I've taken some great pictures - even as a kid. At 10 years old, I was using a $0.98 camera to capture pictures of friends and family, and they were great pictures.
Numbers are irrelevant. They used to say that if you practiced something for 1,000 hours, you'd be proficient. Now we know that's nonsense. Doing something over and over again does not make you good at it. You must learn how to do something correctly and then practice that. If you do that, and you're still taking bad pictures after 10,000 exposures, you need a more expensive camera.
Your take from that article is that the photos were "staged"? I think there is a difference between "working the scene" and something being "staged".

Mine have definitely improved since those first 10,000.
