I have a 600mm f/4 lens that I wanted test for depth of field and quick auto-focus. I think it's going to work out well. It's raining and my flashes are not yet set up. I know I can do much better, I'm just getting started and it has been a few years since I took a hummingbird photo. I'm back!

It's a mix of a single flash and sunlight. I'm a bit of an expert at this. A few years ago I was posting photos where I was using four flashes and a 300mm F2.8 lenses. I reached a point where I could not think of how to improve my work any further than I had, and burned out on hummingbirds and stopped taking photos of them. An eagle family built a nest near my home so I bought a 600mm F4 lens to photograph them. I managed to take this photo of the Eagles last year. No flash was used. I'm currently undergoing chemotherapy for a slow growing controllable form of cancer that I must fight every few years. I fear I'm not currently strong enough to take more Eagle photos because it involves lugging heavy equipment outside and waiting for hours. I decided to see if I could instead use the 600mm lens to take a better photo of the hummingbirds that come to my window. I think I can improve my last hummer photo by getting a little better depth of field. DOF was the limit that stopped me a few years ago. I should be done with the chemotherapy by August and get back down to the Eagle nest. This attached photo of of a hummer was about as good as I was able to do a few years ago. I think I can now do a bit better with my 600mm lens. I can do it from the comfort of my home.

I'm still just in the "feasibility study" part of taking this photo. The focus is off. The exposure is wrong. The lighting needs a lot of work. I still have a lot of tricks up my sleeve. I need to rest. Tomorrow is another day. Today I proved to myself that indeed a 1.4X TC can be added to 600mm lens. I also hung a fuchsia plant in the background. There is still too much sunlight in this photo. I need to control that to make the image sharper.

Welcome back to hummers.

Thank you. I'm at the nadir of my cycle and get very tired. It's still something I can enjoy doing. I'm confident I'll recover.
