Let me say right off the top "this girl is nuts". I had my phone out ready to dial 911. Check out those climbing boots. FYI, I rock/mountain climbed for many years, never like this. I was watching her thinking to myself "she isn't"? These photos were taken at Portland Head Light at Cape Elizabeth, Maine. I was there photographing the lighthouse. Shake my head every time I look at these. To get to where she was she had to climb a fence that was clearly posted "DANGER, KEEP OUT". But good for her, she got her picture.
Sometimes people do really stupid things to get a good photo. Sometimes they get the photo and unfortunately sometimes they die in the process.

Nuts is right. All that risk for a SmartPhone shot! Actually, I know a pro photographer that does dangerous things that makes that look really tame and has gotten injured and nearly killed. But the shots
might have been worth it.

And put other peoples lives at risk trying to save their ... Sorry, I was a safety rep for the company I worked at. Seeing this type of thing drives me crazy.

I cant't think of anything outside of protecting my family worth losing my life for. Especially a photo. But that's just me.
Change the "nuts" to borderline terminally stupid - and in the running for a Darwin Award.

Hi Robert,
Can you believe that? Then she had to come back across. Not the sharpest pencil in the box.

Having taught Jr & Sr High for 34 years I find it all too easy to believe.
My daughter might do something like that, but with a real camera - she is an adrenaline junkie - but one with brains. She would not have gone past the sign and her foot gear would have been the military boots our oldest took her to the PX to buy for her hiking adventures. She drew the line at the $75 tactical gloves he tried to get her to buy. But then he is an Iraq vet, combat engineer, civil affairs, airborne qualified and a jump master for his reserve unit. People like him tend to be a bit fussy about gear they will use or wear when out and about. He sometimes goes hiking with Jasmine and her friends, but he wears a backpack with about 40-60 pounds of weights in it. Her opinion is if you have to have an overly protective big brother, have one who can really protect you.
I can relate to your daughter. I climbed with the Mazamas since I was in HS. The only thing that stopped me was old age caught up with me. Not as limber as I used to be. lol When we climbed we were smart about it. We had proper gear and a plan. This is what we taught our students. I was also the district safety representative for the company I worked for. Have to say, I was pretty proud of our safety record while I was there. Like you, I worked there for 34 years. I worked in the natural gas industry.
BTW, thank your children for their service. Been there, done it. I can appreciate what they are doing.
I wonder about the actual picture she got. She appears to be using a phone camera pointed out to sea. While that part of the Maine Coast is beautiful, she probably wasn't going to get a memorable shot.
Clearly her judgement is impaired. I happen to be a mental health professional in the area, you could give her my number.

OMG, you made me laugh.:) I thought the same thing. If you are in the area then you know where she was. Talk about dumb and dumber.
I especially love the photographer's rock-climbing boots.

I wonder what was in her bag? Pitons and rope I would guess. :(
Oh yes. Along with a grappling hook and lip stick.
