That is great. My only problem is that a new camera has new features, menus and controls. Getting a new camera just before going on a trip, gives you little time to learn how to use it to it's best advantage.

So, we're leaving for Europe in 24 hrs, and I was planning on bringing my Nikon D810, the Tamron 24-70 and the Nikon 28-300. Which is incredibly heavy and had me stressing if I would spend my time fussing with the camera and not enjoying the trip.

Imagine my delight when I got home today to find that my Wife had been to Samys in Los Angeles and picked up a Fuji X-T20 with 2 kit lenses the 16-50 and 50-230 plus a nice little 23 mm pancake lens and 2 spare batteries. Looks like I get to read the manual on the flight over the Atlantic.

I think, after 40 years, she's a keeper.

I'd rather have a good spouse (partner) than a good camera. You can always buy a camera, you can't buy a good spouse / partner.

Are we to assume you wife is clarivoyent or did you drop hints and specifications here and there?

Well, there was some moaning about the weight of my backpack with the D810 inside....

My intention was to read the manual on the flight over, which guarantees I'll fall asleep at wheels up....

You’re going to find it very intuitive. The controls are very much like a classic film camera. Spend an hour or two going through the menus with the manual, and all will become clear. I bought the Fuji for my wife and put it on auto. Then I discovered there were three auto modes, each with a minimum shutter speed (1/60) with with different max ISOs. I picked the highest - ISO 3200,and the camera will open the aperture to the max and then drop the shutter speed if it surpasses ISO 3200. Redundant info I’m sure as you’ll be shooting full manual -right? 🤫

Keep up the obviously positive reinforcement program! That is a stellar gift and it is sure to reduce the "its too heavy" moans. The manual will keep you busy on the plane.

Have a great trip,
C

I'm a big fan of Sony mirrorless cameras. Both full frame and crop sensor. I must admit I have very little knowledge of Fuji mirrorless cameras. It appears many have an interest in these mirrorless cameras. I'll have to read more reviews to learn more. Enjoy your trip while in Europe, and learn the features on your new Fuji X-T20.

My wife would never do that!
The XT-20 is a great camera and I just love the Fuji colors!
The manual is well written and a must read.
I bought the XT-20 for our last trip and fell in love with it!
Enjoy the trip and the camera.

Hope the stars align and you have the best of weather and scenery possible! I head out for the Eastern Sierras trip in just 5 more weeks and am looking forward to photographing all the highlights you shared with me previously. (But I'll be lugging all the heavy gear--lucky you on the new Fuji.)

Your wife definitely sounds like a keeper! I would still bring the D810 with the 28mm-300mm lens though, just in case.

Defeats the purpose of traveling light. I stopped taking my D810 and a bag full of lenses after two trips to Europe. I took some great pictures, but it was too much to deal with when just trying to spend some enjoyable time with my wife. Hey, maybe your wife knows something!
