You have my attention. I have the same consideration - taking my 2 DSLR's with lenses or buying or renting lighter equipment for a river cruise in August. I'd appreciate knowing your experience with the Fuji & lenses.
Thanks,
Mark

So, we're leaving for Europe in 24 hrs, and I was planning on bringing my Nikon D810, the Tamron 24-70 and the Nikon 28-300. Which is incredibly heavy and had me stressing if I would spend my time fussing with the camera and not enjoying the trip.

Imagine my delight when I got home today to find that my Wife had been to Samys in Los Angeles and picked up a Fuji X-T20 with 2 kit lenses the 16-50 and 50-230 plus a nice little 23 mm pancake lens and 2 spare batteries. Looks like I get to read the manual on the flight over the Atlantic.

I think, after 40 years, she's a keeper.

Congratulations on the new camera and keeper wife.

Mine bought me a Gitzo Tripod and Head ($$) when we were dating.

The Samys on Fairfax is my favorite camera store. 4 floors of goodies.

Mark, I just returned recently from Guatemala. I decided not to take my d750 this time and bought a Lumix gx85. Was a pleasure carrying it around on my Black Widow belt holster. Took wonderful pics as well. There are many light choices around for travel. I am not getting younger and this camera was perfect for me. My wife even was able to finally use a camera other than her cell phone. Research, research, research. Enjoy your cruise.

Yes, she is a keeper and so is the XT20. With the 24-70 and the 28-300, you shouldn't need any other lens. Post pictures when you get back.

Great thread, as I wrestle with wanting to replace my Nikon D whatever and 24 to 70 f/2.8 for something more fun to carry.
The older get I hate the weight.

X-T20 is a great entry point to the Fuji system... looking forward to read your posts of its performance. Enjoy the trip !

It will be interesting to see what the verdict is between the two rigs after toting them both around Europe. You did say you were taking your big heavy system too, didn't you? If not, you will really enjoy the Fuji system once you get used to the XC lenses. They are simplified and lack aperture rings, but optically excellent, just like all the Fujifilm lenses. The camera is just made to handle well as a picture taking machine. I had Nikons for 40 years, and still do, but now I just pick up the Fuji when I want to shoot something. Easier to set the parameters without menus, smaller, lighter, handier.

Get yourself an X-T20 with the 18 - 55, and you will wonder why you waited so long. You deserve it! Keep on telling yourself that!

A friend of mine just picked up a Fuji and likes it very much. I don't know which model it is but it seems like all the controls are right there on top and back of the camera for easy access.

Your wife definitely sounds like a keeper! I would still bring the D810 with the 28mm-300mm lens though, just in case.
