I too had a innate resistance to the whole subscription thing........still do....but
The $10/month for Adobe’s “Creative Cloud for Photographers” has got to be one of the best bargains on the planet if you enjoy the whole post processing and editing experience.
For me it is just as much fun as taking the shot.

With the Adobe subscription program you will always have the latest, most up to date versions of both Lightroom and Photoshop on your PC or Mac.

Agree! I wanted Photoshop but there is no way I was going to pay the $600 or whatever the going price was. I'm a hobbyist not a pro and it just didn't pencil out. Ten dollars a month for both Lightroom and Photoshop is a steal. Forget the whole cloud nomenclature. If you want to store all you pictures on Adobe's servers you can. If you want to keep it on your hard drive at home get Lightroom Classic CC.

The consensus of opinion here at UHH seems to be that cameras don't matter, it's the skill of the photographer that counts.

Yet, when it comes to post processing software, the reverse seems to apply and every little update seems to be critical.

Curious, that!

No matter if you're an expert driver or novice, and drive an exotic sports car or a junker, you still want to bring it to the best mechanic you can afford.

On the contrary, most people would take the exotic sports car to the dealership, and the junker to the gas station around the corner.

Not if the mechanic at the gas station around the corner sucked.

To suggest that every piece of post production software, other than Adobe, sucks is preposterous.

What makes my generalization more egregious than yours?

Because yours lacks credibility. If every corner gas station mechanic sucked, they would be out of business. And, more relevant to this post, millions of people do use software other than Adobe.

And not all of them rush to upgrade.
I’m sorry you took my slight hyperbole so literally. Yes, for the most part it’s the craftsman and not the tools.
If that’s how you truly feel, you should embrace it, forego PP and ‘get it right in camera’.
