Looks like you're learning well! Love the irony of the sign.

Very good shots Katy.

It may take days to learn all of the "buttons" names just so I can read the manual! But I had to try it out on these local home town favorites. (Mr Katy now has my D3300.)

Great shots - just love the wee burrowing owls. I don't suppose you would share the location? We are driving down from WA to Rio Vista in August and would love to get some shots of the owls. Thanks.

I am overwhelmed with the positive responses and want to thank all of you that I could not thank individually. I am getting ready for a little day "camera trip". I appreciate every response!

You're doing great with this excellent camera already. I recommend you set it up as forum member Steve Perry recommends on his youtube videos, if bird shooting is your mainstay.

I will. I have watched some of his videos over and over. Thanks!

Katydid- your owls are marvelous !! Very sharp, clear and interesting. We are suppose to have these owls in Tucson near the AF facility. After seeing your owls I think I will take a quick trip and see if I can find them. Were these early morning or late afternoon shots? Are these owls nocturnal? Great job with a new camera!

Suntouched, I see them in the daytime. They seem to be up and about any time I have looked, same as when they could be seen at other locations nearby. Hope you find them. They are not at all skittish!

Very nice shots Katy. Got'a love these little guys. I'm going on a year now with my D500 and I'm sure you'll get used to all the functions real soon. I kind of futzed with it everyday until I got a pretty good feel for it. There is a lot of good info on Youtube for this camera.

Thanks for reminding me of Youtube. It is hard to decide whether to sit at the computer or go out and practice!

Very, very good. I love the sign. Here in Pa. we have very smart deer as they only cross where the sign says "Deer Crossing".....Rich

I would say that first photo is a hoot, but that would be the wrong kind of owl, wouldn’t it? ... a wonderful visual pun!
Really good shots. My favorite of the others is #4 — like the owl against the blue sky. Very nice.
