Planned vacation? You should have another DSLR/Bridge (backup) to take care of such a situation. Most uhh members have more than one camera.

I’m sorry I’m not the average or normal UHH member. But if it were planned I would’ve rented another until such time as I’m prepared to purchase another camera. As my previous camera was stolen and I just spent some 7000+ on this one and accessories. Waiting until such time that I may buy a smaller mirrorless perhaps a Sony a7rlll or D850 not s mirrorless But either one could easily push 10 grand With all the bells and whistles I would like. And I’m close to retirement and need to consider my spending

SHOULD, Maybe you should consider your responses in relationship to others, And their particular preferences and/or circumstances. Rather then your opinion And or belief as to what other Or all UHH members do or don’t do, Apparently according to you anyway. As I think a suggestion would’ve been more appropriate.

I just got my D850 back yesterday, and it was gone 3 weeks... but they did not fix the 3 issues I sent it in for. I am thinking that I will have to take to an independent to actually get it fixed. good luck.

What were your issues?

I sent my D7100 into their Melville, NY repair center a couple of weeks ago. Once they had it it didn't take long to get it back. They advised that I use UPS or FEDEX so that the shipment could be tracked. With insurance I paid $50+ for 5-day service. Nikon did the repair and had it back to me in less time. Their quotes are conservative and are probably realistic for when the shop is inundated with work. Hopefully, there will not be a next time. But if there is I'll opt for USPS. They track shipments as well. What's interesting is that Nikon charged me about $15 for shipping the camera back to me via UPS. I received it within 3 days versus the aforementioned 5 days for $50. Us little guys don't have much leverage with the likes of UPS and FEDEX compared to corporations...

My guess would be that most of your shipping cost was insurance. I never purchase shipping insurance as I am provided such under my business insurance policy. My best guess is that Nikon would also not purchase insurance for the same reason. You may also want to take note that carriers have various rates for various speeds of service and these can vary widely. I have used Nikon's service in Melville many times, including twice in the last six months. I have always been able to count on receiving a completentely repaired item in return. Best of luck and here's hoping that there is no next time!

I sent my D500 (overnight Delivery) to LA last Monday 4-2 for repairs and was told it would take 7 to 10 days for repairs. I just received a confirmation that they received my Camera into their system today 4-11 and can expect the repairs to take another 7 to 10 days and another 3 to 5 days to have it returned to me. Good thing I hadn't planned my vacation in the next couple of weeks. NOT HAPPY

What happened to your camera that it needed repair? The D500 is not an old model. Last summer I had non-warranty minor service and cleaning done on my Pentax K-5 at a local Camera Repair shop. I drove there for both drop off and pick up and it still took about two weeks for the minor work.

You are probably right on the insurance. I received my camera back in very good working order. I have no issue with Nikon service...

Your right, I bought it new around thanksgiving, but I understand things happen to even the best of things, my camera would no longer read or write to the SD card.

SB 800 nor SB 600 would fire on the D850 but would on the D800,
XQD card would occasionally report errors,
focus point would switch at random from single point to group af...

now, that said, it seems that the issues are fixed, but they said that they did not fix them. this is not the first time that I know of a camera being sent in, being told that there was no issue found, but they still fixed it... come on Nikon... lets be honest with your customers.

I can't speak to the SB-600 Flash, but I have used the SB-800, SB-900 and SB-5000 with my D850 with no issues. I have not had any XQD card issues (Sony and Lexar) nor have I had any focus switching. I have had my D850 since Sept 7th (date-of-release) and it has been a solid camera with absolutely no issues. Sorry to hear you have had some, but I will say, in my 30 years shooting Nikon, never once has Nikon service been anything less than completely honest, whether in or out of warranty. Best of luck.

Thank you, I have had several friends who have been less than satisfied with Nikon service in that's 3 years or so, and several have also had issues with them telling the customer that nothing is wrong but when camera comes back, everything is working... so if they didn't do anything to the camera how did it just all of a sudden start working? Hence my statement of nothing wrong but they did something... if you follow me.
