Nikon transfer troubles

Okay been busy last few days , just got home and went and took 5 fresh shots with the D700 came in to download load them to my computer- the hard drive is a Prima Series 2.5 Sata- solid state.
Camera is plugged into (not on) to a hub, with a mouse, other port for a 1tb Toshiba hard drive, when I turn the camera on nothing happens. So,
I have another hard drive for this computer an Hitachi HT S541680J95H00, not solid state, all the same connection, turn the camera on all is good.
I know what you’re saying, use the Hitachi, love to but can’t hook up to the internet with it, there's another story.

Might I be missing something else? Settings different
