in our local photo club end-of-year contest. We can submit up to 3, color or B/W, taken within the prior fiscal year (since May 1, 2017). Pretty much most of them I've taken during this period of time were taken at Oshkosh (world-famous major aviation convention). I thought this would be a good one...I hear that the guest judge likes vivid colors. Pics can be any size, but must be mounted on an 11x14 board. Opinions?

You get a mounted 11x14 out of it. Why not?

Thanks for the positive outlook :) How about how I can improve it, if at all...I'm thinking about whether I can brighten the whites or the reds without making them look blown out. I had an 11x14 metal print (my first) made from a B/A pic...perhaps I could do a paper print out of it, too. The lens I used was a rented 70-400G2 on a rented a77ii. I think it's the sharpest combo I've ever used...unfortunately I screwed up tons of photos in the process , i.e. frozen props.

Outstanding image. Great color and super sharp. To me the image has a negative connotation because it looks like they are going down to crash?

I would change the angle of the image to a going up angle. That I believe will make it a winner.

Never thought of that...I'd have to go back and in-crop the image and adjust and see how it looks..as cropped I lose a bunch of the image. Rotating 90 degrees is to extreme of an angle and seems to make the planes less of a strong subject, in my opinion. I'll give it a shot. Here is a frame or two out of sequence and rotated 30 degrees. otherwise it's SOOC (not the one I'd enter...just experimental)

That will be a prize winner. I am a judge for the Chicago Camera clubs and the advise I gave you is solid.

What do you think of the new image?

As you might guess from my Avitar, I know the AeroShell pilots, have ridden with most of the pilots several times and have acted as their photographer at several shows.

I believe that they actually would like the down angle better, as they are not afraid of pointing straight down (I have one video from the back seat during a hammerhead that is particularly spectacular). A photo judge may feel differently, but aerobatic pilots like "unusual angles".

Hope you get to see one of AeroShell's night shows, as they really make for some great shots!

The second one - downward angle and brightened reds. Nice shot.
