... . No need for the panning axis of the head, since you can simply rotate the entire rig.

- I recently added the 3-legged fold-up foot to the bottom of my old monopod and others are buying new ones with feet so that’s not entirely an option. I heartily recommend the 3-legged foot. I was experiencing turning unsteadyness when using heavier camera/lens combos — much more stable now with the foot.
- I’ve used every kind of head on a monopod that you can think of, all having advantages and disadvantages. It comes down to personal preferences and what works best for the kind of photography you do. Try different stuff & see what you like.

easiest thing is to just go to ACE and get a reducing bushing of the correct size.
It will cost you less than the shipping if you order it online.

My monopods both have a screw in the plate that has the larger thread on the outside & it moves down out of the way when anything requiring the smaller thread size is mounted...One is a Manfrotto and the other is a 3 legged thing CF. Kinda like on a spring...

You should use a tile head on a monopod, not a ball head.

Sorry, meant tilt head.

I get the people who say a tilt head is what you want, but for me, I prefer the smaller profile of a ballhead, and not having to deal with the handles to the tilt head.
It's a personal preference, neither camp is wrong or right. The original question was about fitting a ballhead (which I'm assuming they already have) to a monopod with the wrong size mounting screw. a threaded bushing will fix that, just a few pennies from the hardware store.

Check your monopod screw, all the better models have a reversible screw with a 3/8" mount on the other end, only the cheaper ones do not have this feature. Also, I recommend a good tilt head rather than a ball head for a monopod, the ball head is MUCH more difficult to keep level, especially with a heavier lens mounted.
