Colter Bay Village is a good place to stay. Check out Moose Flats Overlook, near Colter Bay. Color on Two Ocean Lake Road. Also, I got good grizzle photos there. Maybe you will get lucky as I did.

planning to head there Sept 20; always dicey trying to figure when fall colors will peak, but, a lot of photo workshops are headed there then, and prices for rooms are high, thus telling me something. recommendations for a hotel with create Tetons view; have read the hotel bios on line and, am looking for some verification from Hogs as to what I see. Looks like it is easy to find the "tourist" photo spots; looking for advice on some spots one might not think of, or, discover during a 4-day stay, particular sunrise / sunset spots

Spent several days there on late September 2012. Weather was beautiful, colors ok.
Smoke from fires was ruinous for jpg’€™s...
Have a great time!

If you would like to check out Mike Jackson's site, one of our members, for photo ops in the Tetons, this site is excellent as are his tours. Well worth it! http://www.bestofthetetons.com/

Do search for "Telephoto for landscape" or http://www.bestofthetetons.com/?s=zooms+for+landscape

Wow, I have this image with that "Old Patriarch Tree" from the early 70's (scanned from a Kodachrome 64 slide). I didn't know it was a famous site or even had a name. I just ran across it on a visit a snapped a few shots...

I agree with Mike that the west side of the Tetons offers many fine opportunities. I think the geology of the Tetons (really no foothills on the east side, just a sheer rise of the peaks) is more alluring, but the west side has more hidden wonders to explore. Another area that deserves more attention is the north end of the range, on the east side. The Jackson Lake area and areas around Flagg Ranch are quite scenic. Jackson Lake Lodge is a good place to stay. This shot of Eagle's Nest Peak, across Jackson Lake shows a different look of the Tetons from that farther south. There is an embarrassment of riches for photographers all over the area.

That is a really iconic shot!! It really captures the vast scope and great variety of the TetonRange landscape. Beautiful photograph.
