planning to head there Sept 20; always dicey trying to figure when fall colors will peak, but, a lot of photo workshops are headed there then, and prices for rooms are high, thus telling me something. recommendations for a hotel with create Tetons view; have read the hotel bios on line and, am looking for some verification from Hogs as to what I see. Looks like it is easy to find the "tourist" photo spots; looking for advice on some spots one might not think of, or, discover during a 4-day stay, particular sunrise / sunset spots
Peak colors are much better at your house!

I’d stay at the Jackson Lake Lodge. It’s pricey but in the middle of everything with one of the greatest views in the world. Enjoy your trip.
looks like I should splurge' good ( central / easy access ) location for getting around the NP for photography ?

It's small enough that it's not that big of a deal IMO.
2 full days, 3 full days ? what would be enough to get around and photograph ?

Last year I got a really great rate at the little cabins at Colter Bay during September. Good hiking right outside the door and deer in the yard. Teton is easy to get around in, nothing is far away. The “famous “ locations are famous for good reasons so don’t miss them. Mormon Barns, Schwabachers Landing, Jenny Lake, Snake River overlook, Oxbow. Explore those then just wander on small roads and trails. Ask at the visitor center where foliage is best-it was Pilgrim Creek road when I was there. And ask them about animals- Rockefeller preserve was animal-central for moose and bear when I was there. Don’t miss a sunrise, even if it isn’t spectacular, the elk are worth it.

Two full days will work. We like to take time to drive Moose-Wilson Road two or three times and that's time consuming, but has been extremely rewarding.
Sept 20 is very early. Best time is 9-28 to 10-4. I have a timeshare there for week of color - #39. Last year I hit it just right for color driving in and then it snowed for 4 days straight...left and went to Moab.
Weather that time of year really sucks, cold and rainy 45-52 day and freezing at night. I have encountered 5 days of rain in a row and last year snow. Good luck.
no problem with road closures ?
most of the photo workshops I see on the web are headed to GT in the Sept 20+ time frame
Sorry I can't help you, Ed. But I certainly do envy you and your trip!!

That is because end of Sept is booked solid. Last year Oxbow Bend was in peak color 10/1 for the golden Aspens and nothing in town had changed. Second week of October was best for color.
After 15 years of hit and miss, if you were selling your photo results, it is best that you have a friend in town to tell you when the leaves are in peak, fly out for 2-3 days, and go home.

You should consider teaming up with a fall color photo workshop. The leaders are very knowledgeable about the area and will take you to the spots that have the best color and will provide the best sunrise and sunset lighting. Expect to pay around $1000 to $1500, but you will have much better photo opportunities than if you go it alone.
