When I visit London I never need to carry more than a couple of quid
since it seems everyone from the local Starbucks to the little bodega
around the corner accepts credit cards. Not all European countries
are the same. For example, in the Netherlands they prefers cash. If you
have traveled in Iceland, what has been your experience making purchases
with credit cards?

I never got past the Airport in Reykjavik but the airport concessions accepted Dollars and Euros and gave change in Kroner. Credit cards no problem. A lot of places in Europe (and elsewhere) don't want credit cards because they get charged a couple of percent in fees - not to mention what they have to pay the tax man when they have to put the payment through the books. Even places that accept credit cards will often refuse to accept American Express.

I have been to Iceland three times and used credit cards for all purchases throughout the country. I usually carry kroner with me for small purchases.

Plastic and small cash on hand is the way to go. Never use your debit card if it is tied to a checking or other account linked to any of your personal accounts.

We were in Iceland last year, never used any cash; everywhere we went credit cards were accepted.

Iceland has no problems with credit or even debit cards. If all else fails, there are lots of banks to withdraw cash. But Iceland is an expensive place to visit!!
