Last week Husband and I were in Orlando attending the Ligonier National Conference and stayed on for a couple days after it ended. On one of those days we drove up to the Blue Spring state park and took the two hour St John's River Cruise. It was a perfect day for it as wildlife was in abundance and we were told by one of the passengers that it was the best cruise on the river that he had ever taken.

Great shots. Looks like an area that we need to make sure is preserved.

Nice captures. I'm only familiar with the St Johns where it flows thru Jacksonville as I lived there in the early 70's. Was this cruise south of Jacksonville then?

We were in the Blue Spring state park which is about 30 miles north of Orlando. Blue Spring is where the manatees spend the winter - we saw dozens of them while walking on the boardwalk along the spring.

If you do, make sure you reserve your spot ahead of time. We did this spur of the moment and didn't know if we would be able to get on the boat until literally the last moment. BUT....I ended up sitting in the front seat which was perfect for taking pictures! It was all good! Oh, and BTW, the charge is $23/person for the two hour cruise.

Sue, these are great shots and you were able to see quite a variety of birds as well as a big gator! Did you see any manatees either in the park or on the river? I live a mile from Blue Spring and know the river well! I really enjoyed seeing your shots.

It was a very good day for seeing manatees and I even got a semi-decent picture of two of them nose-to-nose. The water was unbelieveably clear - we went all the way to the spring itself and were amazed that water that seemed to be 6-8 feet deep was actually over 100 feet deep. I'll be posting pictures of that part of the day tomorrow.
