I hope someone can help me with this ???
I purchased a Vivitar Infared Wireless Shutter Release, model RC6-NIK to use with my d3100. It did not come with instructions on how to use it, just said point it and push the button. I can get it to start the count down timer and hear the shutter click but there are no picture to view. I called the support people at vivitar and the only thing they told me was to go back to their website and download the manual. Well they don't even show the model I bought or a manual. If anyone can help it is appreciated greatly.

Terry

The IR remote is nothing but a beam transmitter. If it makes your camera do ANYTHING then its working. You need to make your camera setting compatible with what you want to do with it. Sounds like you have it set to trip the self-timer rather than the shutter.

Are you sure it is a Vivitar model RC6-NIK? Google does not show it and it is not listed in Vivitar's website http://www.vivitar.com/support
I would double check the model number then call or email Vivitar and have walk you through the steps to find your manual.

1) Will my owners manual that came with my camera tell me how to set my camera up for it to trip shutter to take pictures and not the timer?

2) I got the number off the back of the release: VIV-RC6-NIK and when I gave this number to the support person at vivitar I talked to last night he could not find it either, he just told me they do not have the manuals and to go back to the website and download it from there. Only problem is, it does not show a Wireless Infared Shutter Release VIV-RC6-NIK in their system or the manual to down load.

Adorama sells it. Maybe they can photocopy the manual for you? http://www.adorama.com/VVRC6NK.html

You can download a copy of the camera manual here. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/compose_reply.jsp?topicnum=51618&postnum=843759

I might have missed it, but I couldn't find any reference to the wireless remote in the manual.

I don't believe you can use an infrared release with a D3100, but there are wireless shutter releases available composed of transmitter/receiver components utilizing certain frequencies that will work with a D3100, I know that because I sometimes utilize such a device on my D3100 and it works well.

i have had quite a few brands of remote shutter releases......all are a pain in the neck. plus you have to have the shooting mode on the timer remote control. i want a shutter release to go off when i press the damn button.....

solved it with a couple of yongnuo rc603 wireless flash triggers for $30. i just had to buy the release cable to fit my camera. it was about $4. now i can be 100 ft away, around a corner, not in direct line of site and it activates the shutter every single time and has never let me down.

Thanks Rich,
The package said it would work on the d3100 but I don't think is does either so I am taking it back along with my camera and see if the people at the camera shop can get it to work. If they can I will let you know.

Here are some like I got. The D3000 is listed, so it should work.

i bought mine for canon...but here is the nikon ones and it shows for the 3100

comes with the shutter release cord complete for $32.

you can use one at the camera at the end of the cord, or use the other transciever and click form just about anywhere. these have never failed me.

cool thing is that you can buy a second pair and also fire on off camera flash wirelessly while also using the wireless shutter release.
