Its always good to go to the extreme to make a point :-) but when a ranch kid can't drive a tractor and has to wear a hardhat to be in the barn, things have gone a little too far don't you think?

My Mennonite neighbors' kids drive tractors and don't wear hard hats.

After the last school killing, people 14 to 18 years old are telling us older people no more of the killing. Are we going to list to them or put our hands over our ears. Or said that their are too young to vote so why wasted time with them. Next time it could be your child or grandchild.

This is my second reply to this issue (first was experience in Latvia).

Try going to your local supermarket deli counter and asking for 6 ounces of cold cuts. The results will probably keep us amused for a couple of years.

Working around a farm is very dangers work, don't kid your self. No I don't think it is going too far for a person to wear a hardhat in a barn. A barn can be just as dangers as a steel mill.

Those kids are the future of the world; Teach them, and they will fill our shoes... Shoot them, and we will fill their graves....

There is a complete departure in the way this new generation thinks . I think the internet especially when coupled with cellphones has rewired their brains . Digital technology is not just a tool but an actual extension of themselves . Now add in the years of indoctrination at school about the virtues of Socialism and Political Correctness and you have a generation of spineless robots who bellyache about everything .
Reality will catch up with them one day and when it does it will be a real shock . Young “ adults “ today are confusing WW2 with the American Civil War . A 17 year old kid thinks about 911 as if it happened 50 years ago and that our own government might have actually did the planning !
Ignorance is among us , but the good news is , is that we also have good kids rooted in reality too .
I rent heavy equipment at a place here in NJ when needed and the 24 year old who works there is in the Army Reserves . He’s polite , he’s honest and reminds me of what was generally normal behavior 30 years ago . And it’s these kids that we hope will be our leaders of tomorrow .
If groups like ANTIFA get the upper hand , we are finished . But they are nothing more than spoiled confused brats who like to make trouble so I sincerely doubt it . Intelligence and common sense will prevail , I hope !

We loved to hire farm and ranch kids for they had common sense and a work ethic at a young age. Only one way to get that, and thats working.
If you think its better to baby and coddle them until they are 25 years old or so, go ahead, I'm retired now and no longer looking for employees who can think and function.

Always good to leave out details when making a point...eh redfrogleg?

What age would a farm kid be considered too young to drive a tractor 13, 10, 7, 5, ? What age? A person (man, woman, buy, girl) has to have the mechanical intelligence and physical size to to drive a farm tractor, especially if there is an implement behind.

And, working alone on a farm, in a barn, or out in the field is never a good idea; but, it's done, and has to be done, but not by a kid that doesn't have the mental or physical equipment.

Hard hat in a barn???... never heard of that one! Which state? What kind of barn? a barn under construction? a dairy barn? a barn for machine storage? a livestock barn?, in a privately owned barn? Who "polices" the policy: the hard hat police?

Too bad you didn't live when there were no child labor laws... bet you'd have been the first little boy to cry for mama.

Always good to leave out details when making a poi... (show quote)

I suppose allowing the parents of the farm kids to use their better judgement is too much to ask?
If we just had more government and more rules life would be so grand wouldn't it!
