My rule for good eating in a pub is to look at the chalk board and order whatever special they have listed. Do this a couple times and you'll never agree with those who complain about English cooking again.

Love York. Cathedral, walls, Viking center, etc., etc. Durham great, too: Cathedral, river rowing, university with dorms on Norman castle site, etc. And we agree that September/October best time.
