My wife and I toured Bryce, Zion and the North Rim last year and stayed in hotels/motels that we felt were centrally located. Our last stop before heading back was in Kanab, UT; it's just a small town close to the AZ border but it was the site of many western movies. If you go there, stop into the visitor center. The staff in there were MOST helpful and knowledgeable and told us about a canyon tour in the area that was GREAT! They also have an 8.5 x 14 sheet of movies and TV shows that were filmed in the vicinity and it was printed on both sides!

I remember the north and south rims were very different, and the north was quite a bit higher in elevation. It was a surprising difference. Nice shot.
