At the first glance it looks good, SalvageDiver. Her face is excellent, the skin color perfect. You did a good job on her eyes and lips, first class. However, the tan color goes astray on her arms and legs. Look at the shadow area on her lower legs, this is not at all convincing. The highlight on her right leg needs toning down. Four thumbs today.

You were right, the legs didn't match. Here's another try.

A while back I posted a request to have the colour brown explained to me. Brown consists of a colour plus its complement. Your tan's a bit on the orange side. If you wanted to make it browner you could add some blue into the mix. If you've added the orange by making a selection of the skin areas, try shifting the WB towards blue for that selection. For my own tan edit I also added a touch of green using the Tint slider. Or you cloud just paint in some blue. I'd also recommend slightly desaturating the skin areas.

Thanks for your comment, R.G. It was stipulated in the preamble to the challenge that members were free to choose the tan color of their choice.

RG, very good and welcome feedback. In this case I was focused on matching the luminosity and colors of the right and left legs. I was less focused the hue of the tan. I do understand and appreciate your comment and will go back and try implementing your suggestions for my own learning experience.

Thanks again,
Mike

You're welcome. I appreciate that with some people, orange is indeed the colour of their tan, but to my mind I wouldn't describe it as the optimum tan colour. It's counter-intuitive that adding blue and even green will improve the colour of the tan, but it works.

Yep, adding a touch of blue did improve the skin tone. The idea is correct because blue is the compliment of orange.

I know I'm old, and I am seriously questioning my eyes, but to me the center girl is less orange than your previous entry. The girl on the right has a light tan and the girl on the left is the original (I hope). Does everyone see what I see?

I hesitate to offer more challenges if my vision is at fault.

I agree with you Shakey. I opened up another window in my browser so I could see both downloads side by side and agree with your verdict.

And green is the complement of red. The original skin tone had a red component, and out of curiosity I went back to the original and added just green to it using the Tint slider. The difference isn't startling, but considering it's the only adjustment, it's made a significant difference to the skin tone, making it noticeably browner. In my original edit I reduced the original skin tone but didn't remove it completely, so there was something more than just added orange for the green tint to combine with.

Original.
Original....

Added green tint.

Veeerddy interesting... as the old german on Laugh-in would say.

I normally use LR to do these kind of edits, but this time I used PS to play with masks, blending modes and the blend-if function. Not sure where the issue lies at the moment, but i could have easily screwed something up. Likely a learning moment for me. Let me troubleshoot and get back with you and Jim on this, shortly.

BTW, the girl on the left is the original.

The green tint was (in my opinion) the correct adjustment. I really like the new and improved skin tone.

Thank you, Mike, R.G., and Brent. Yep, this is an interesting point. I'll try this with Affinity Photo and GIMP. I'll post results.
