Maybe reset to factory settings? EV value jacked way up? Maybe a setting is just out of wack.

Seriously: post an example picture of the problem as a reply to this discussion and click on (store original).

HI there Happy New Year everyone.
I am experiencing a problem. My Nikon D5100 is no longer taking clear shots. The quality has gone way down, I have been reusing the memory card for about three years now. Could that be the problem? The photos are now looking like there is a haze over them. I never had this problem before. I have not changed a thing in the way I take the shots. I took it to a local camera store and the guy cleaned the camera but it doesn't help.
Igot the camera from Andorama a few years ago. I am really very distressed about this. I cannot afford a new camera at this time. Can anyone help me on this? Thank you.

Ellen - I sympathize with your understandable frustration. It really might be best to contact Nikon and send it back to them with a detailed description of the problem you are encountering as well as some sample photos. They can diagnose with much greater accuracy and assurance than even the most intelligent random UHH member. Good luck!

Where or how do I get that "auto tune"?
Thanks

3xxx an 5xxx series Nikons do not support lens fine tuning, that is available in the 7xxx series and up.

This is a good reason to have a backup camera to your DSLR. Especially, if others depend on your photos. My backup is an inexpensive Nikon Bridge camera. I hope you can find the reason your D5100 is not working as it should. Good luck.

First, check your manual and reboot to your original default settings, second, buy a new card, neither fixes are expensive and that my fix your problem.

You may be correct about that. Especially, if it has never been cleaned at all. Ever.

If you can't figure out and fix the problem, you can always send the camera to Nikon and they'll figure it out. That would be a lot less expensive than a new camera and you could have it cleaned while it's there. Probably cost $125 (or less) but worth it if you can't figure out the problem.

I had the same problem with my camera shortly after Nikon introduced the D850. Up until then, I was very happy with my photos.

You mentioned having brought it in and had it cleaned and it didn't help. Wasn't a sensor cleaning included? You may want to call them back and verify whether they cleaned the sensor or not.

The D5100 is 7 years old. If you decide to replace it, because a possible repair would be higher than you want to pay. You can get a refurbished D5100, by Nikon, from Adorama for $260. You can either post a photo on this forum to get a possible diagnosis of the problem. Or get the sensor cleaned at a local photo shop. If you have no clue on how to wet clean a sensor with swabs, I recommend not doing it. There could be a number of reasons your camera is acting up. We are only guessing what it is. Good luck.
