Have you ever met an Eskimo?

Worked with lots of them, Fort Nelson, Fort St John BC, Hay River, Inuvik, Swimming Point, Obre Lake, Fort Smith NWT and many more

Okay, how do you see that as racist then?

BTW, my great grand children's first language is Yup'ik Eskimo. It was the same with their parents, and with their grandfather who is my son. Today I live with Inupiat Eskimo people, here in Barrow.

Like I said before I just don't see anything there that is racist.

Here is some published research for y’all. It shows an increase over the last 250 years of 1.5 degrees C. http://berkeleyearth.org/summary-of-findings/

It does not appear to be much of an increase, but it has very much changed our climate and brought on some mega storms. Many studies show that these storms will most likely increase in intensity and become much more common.
So let’s see, snow in SE Georgia, 100 degrees below zero wind chill in New Hampshire, 3 Cat5 Hurricanes in the Caribbean, inordinate amounts of rain along with these hurricanes, No, I don’t think you can say that it is natural.
Who needs Gore when you have science.
Or you could just keep your head in the sand and freeze your a** off.

Oh, I just want to say how much I did not enjoy your racism. As follows:
———————-
It is so cold back East, Elizabeth Warren is claiming to be an eskimo.
Now that's funny!!!
———————————-

No, it’s not funny, it is a sick racist joke put forth by a man with no class.
Here is some published research for y’all. It show... (show quote)

Your data is one of many .
And how is a joke about Warren racist ? She’s not an American Indian but claims to be . So that’s humor .
Lighten up buddy , and open your mind up to all the data about weather .
Have a great day .😃

The word ( racism ) is used so much today it’s becoming meaningless . It’s used to hurt people , to destroy people you don’t like . Real racism can get ugly and dangerous . It’s serious . And we ought to reserve the term for real racism , not a bit of humor .
Cold in NJ ! Was 2 degrees here last night ....How’s your weather ?

It does happen that racism toward Alaska Native people is very endemic in Alaska. I am actually more sensitive to it than most, because I am not Native and didn't grow up tolerating it. I tend to get fairly assertive when I witness it...

It has been very warm here while all the cold air was going your way. It was 0F two days ago, -8 yesterday, and is -13 right now. Probably -20 where it should be by tomorrow.

First of all: Happy New Year Apaflo.

Perhaps the offended poster is from Canada. I read where they consider the term Eskimo to be offensive vs. using the native terms. From what I read that is not the case in Alaska. I don't have a dog in this race, just wondering.
BTW, as I understand it: Ms. Warren in the past falsely claimed to be part Indian so that she could get a job specially reserved for those of certain cultures. If true, I would think any native americans would be greatly insulted by that act.

It may be that some were thinking the word Eskimo should have been Inuit. That would be valid in Canada and Greenland were all Eskimos are Inuit. No Eskimos in Siberia are Inuit as they are all Yupik. In Alaska we have both, though the "Inuit" refer to themselves generally as Inupiat.

Whatever, the original comment was clearly about Eskimos in the US where that term is quite proper and acceptable by both Yup'ik and Inupiat. (Note that Yup'ik is specifically Central Alaskan Yupik while Yupik includes Siberian Yupik.)

I would caution that Warren merely repeated what she had been told about her ancestry as a child. She did not make it up or lie. Unlike most she has never claimed to be related to a Cherokee Princess. She just understood that she had Indian ancestry, and back then there was no way to verify it.

She did NOT use that status to get a job or gain entrance to school.

I knew I shouldn't have chimed in here. And shouldn't have repeated something that I hadn't read further on. Keep warm up there.

One can only wonder...with the massive amounts of data "out there" and easily accessible and understood...how can there still be any debate about global warming. If you read and study this issue with any degree of seriousness, the "answer" is clear....

Easily accessed for sure, but understanding it is clearly not possible for many.

It is abstract in that it cannot literally be seen with the eye. It requires actually understanding more than one complex concept and then relating their significance even though the relationship is not tangible.

For some people that is easy and for others it is not. The people it is not easy for probably have talents that make other tasks easier for them.

Ever been to the 4 corners and Mesa Verde area? Hopi Indians vanished from there about 700 years ago. Map of the area at the entrance to the park shows what the area looked like when the Hopi’s first started inhabiting the area. Just to the south of there was the Gulf of Mexico. Really, reaching all the way to north west New Mexico! I think they realized the gulf reached that far because driving their SUVs around the top of the Mesa caused the ice caps to melt. They couldn’t live with the guilt!

Stay warm fellow Hogs ...Stay safe too , this East Coast storm is supposed to be a bad one in some areas ..

Global warming is attacking the west. 46 degrees in Boise today. Facebook brought up my post from last year when it was -15.

Snow gone from the deck, driveway, and road. Last year we were up to about six feet in my yard...a little above Boise in altitude. Local ski area closed.
