Global warming--the big joke.

Of course there’s global warming; there’s been global warming and global cooling since the beginning of time, and it runs in cycles. There’s nothing we do to cause it, and there’s nothing we can do about it. I read the other day that nutty Al Gore said the polar ice caps would be melted by now. I also read that the truth is they are getting larger. It’s been hot before; it’s been cold before; it’s been dry before; it’s been wet before; we’ve had lots of snow before; we’ve had a dearth of snow before. We’ve had dramatic upheaval before--where do folks think all those buried dinosaur fossils came from?

There, I’ve said it. Complain, argue, or whatever all you want. I don’t care. This is my story, and I’m sticking to it. Counter-arguments will fall on deaf ears.

If 'you don't care' and you cut of debate by saying that replies will ' fall on deaf ears', then, as my mum used to say when I was growing up, why say anything at all?
Debate/discussion is good but not listening to others is intellectual weakness and sadly something we see more and more with our current political leaders.
Climate change has always occurred. No one With half a brain and the ability to read denies that. The $64,000 question is: are humans accelerating it? Maybe, maybe not but considering it's importance, it should be thoroughly studied.

I hope you are not one of these people that are against vaccinations.

You make an excellent point , however I can understand the point of the person you’re criticizing. The global warming - caused by human activity crowd has the attitude that if you dismiss their theory you’re , well , I don’t have enough words to describe their reactions . They’re militant about their position . Al Gore exemplifies this . This smug ex-politician has made millions off this , politicizing science and trashing alternate theories . It’s actually a growing trend among the Left . To shut down discussion in this case is to stop science . The person you’re criticizing I think is fed up with this growing trend as I am . I support what you beleived 100% , but in order to be heard it’s time to push back , because we must put the science back into this phenomenon and get the politics out .

I think you are painting everyone with the same brush. Yes there are some who push hard for and there are just as many that push hard against. I would ease up on that 'people on the left are for and people on the right are against' point of view. I know many liberals who scoff at it and many conservatives that are worried about it. In both cases, we get the same attitude as I am right, you are wrong so screw you and everyone that looks like you. I myself am a scientist so I take a more measured approach. LOOK AT THE DATA. Ignore what the crazies are saying (either for or against) and sift through the facts (and please, a little more than superficially) and then decide for yourself. Many people truly miss the point that global climate events have to be looked at over long time periods. You wouldn't invest in stocks just by looking how a company did over the past two weeks.

Why is this important and that everyone should care? Because we should look to the future and what we will let our kids and their kids inherit. Too many people only think of themselves. Climate change will not affect you or I very much but it has the potential to affect people in 50-60 years or so.

The US is the only country in the world that is ignoring this. This should be a wake up call regardless if you lean to the left or right. Climate change should, like any scientific endeavour, be thoroughly investigated by many different angles, and by many different national groups. Hopefully they can come up with a consensus of what is going on.

I too am tired of hearing about it but it is more fatigue from listening to rants on how people decide either for or against it, based on 'facts' that they garnered from a single article, or from a top politician (guess who) making light of it. Intellectual laziness period. Future generations deserve better than that.

I absolutely agree with you about science .
I have no problems with Liberals . They challenge the status quo . They ingage in thought provoking ideas , constructive criticism is a good thing . I do not buy into their ideas most of the time however but I respect a person who raises questions .
But it is this new Liberalism that isn’t Liberal at all , is what I was referring to . It’s Leftism . And Leftism is dangerous as it shuts down other people’s views . That’s their motivation to retain power . Ideas are power because it shapes policy . And policy directly impacts us , our children and grandchildren . That was my point .

Did you just say 'gobbledy gook'? ;-)

Two points:

1) It is nice to have a civil discussion (with Machia) here where we clarify our thinking on a particular topic without calling each other dumbass. We don't have to agree but we instead explain our thinking.
2) If you do not like it, do not read it dumbass (the dumbass here, if I have to explain, is a point of humour and not personal).

Well there is, indeed, something we can do about global warming - climate change. We can prepare for the inevitable. If not, we'll have the same fate as the Mayan empire....

I doubt the death of 50% of the oceans coral has much to do with the weather cycles.
