I am seeing old Nikon FM's for sale. Are they the old 35mm type, and I'm seeing about $300. If this is so, in your opinion what might an old in good condition FE go for with a Nikon 50m f1.8. Thank you.

I'd let it go for a song and a dance, if the song was good enough and the dancer really hot and NAKED!!!

I don't think the FM goes for $300. I think it less than that. However, it seems to me that the FE fetches less money than the FM. The FE was significantly more expensive than the FM when they both were new.

Why not keep looking in the same place you found prices for Nikon FM cameras for prices for Nikon FE camera prices?

I see one posted on Amazon for $300 in acceptable condition. I think the last 0 was a typo. The others listed as good are from $70 - $135.

The FM 2 goes for more. I have one of those but don't know what made it better.

Dang, I thought this was going to be a thread about the venerable Nikon F!
The FM/FE were different animals.

To me it's not much better than the FM but to many it's way better. First the FM2 is newer. Top shutter speed of 1/4000 vs the FM 1/1000. Flash sync speed of 1/200 (for the original FM2) and 1/250 for the FM2n. Interchangeable focusing screen.
The FM does have an advantage that it's AI coupling can be push out of the way to moun Pre AI lens on it.

Thanks. Maybe I'll go out tomorrow and buy a roll of film. Then again, maybe not.

Anyone can ASK whatever they want for an item, but that has nothing to do with its actual VALUE. Nothing is worth more than someone is willing to actually PAY for it.

$300 for a Nikon FM or FE is too much, even with a 50mm lens included.
Rule #1 when shopping for a used film camera: Be patient. Sometimes it takes a while to find a truly good deal on the specific camera you are looking for.
