Very well said, I couldn't agree more.

Ronichas, I just wonder how long and how many members would have remained in your meetup group if, whenever someone asked a question, you told them to "just google it"?

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
Mike

I am not new to photography. The one thing that often surprises me, is how rude, nasty and mean some of the people...mostly men...are on this site. I tend to picture an old man, in his underwear, alone, lonely and posting negative comments.

Some people feel they have to criticize, insult, make rude remarks, make fun of, etc, when people post something. They do this even if they aren't even interested in the topic.

This is not always a friendly site. There are people that are very helpful, but the rude ones take away from that.

"Whatever you do, don't look in your manual or visit the Nikon site."
"I've always wondered how the human can be so naïve, such that their brain thinks $174.99 is far less expensive than $175. "
"I think too many sellers on UHH have an inflated opinion of what their old, unwanted equipment is worth."

I would like to request in 2018, that those people hold back on their negative comments.
If you don't have something nice to say, don't post anything.

There are newbies here, to both photography and to the use of the computer. Yes, it is easy to say, *just google it* but there is a way to say it without being mean about it. That might not be the first thing someone thinks about when they are trying to get some information.

We all share a love of photography, lets be kind to one another, be helpful, or don't help at all.

Wishing all a Healthy & Happy Holiday.

Very good advice ronichas, and it would make a more inviting site if followed, but I fear your attempt will only be more fuel for the fire. I hope not.
In any event, you have a very Merry Christmas!

Ronichas, I joined the group fairly recently, and I often felt the same as you. I would probably visit more often if not for the negativity.

Thanks for posting your thoughts about this issue. I've been a member for many years, but its seems that the nastiness and intolerance in word and tone has increased in the last year or so. Even when I post an image that is totally removed from even a hint of an opinion there will usually be a negative comment from someone who feels they have an axe to grind, a cause to advance, or a person or idea to attack.

Good Point SalvageDiver. I never let anyone post any mean or rude comments. When this did happen, I sent a private note saying I would not tolerate this, if it happened again, they would be removed.
People can certainly disagree, but it is important to me, that they be kind and respectful.

I have been a member of this group for about a month and I love it. I have learned a tremendous amount from many of you and for that I am grateful. I’ve also been the target of the not so kind but I have to say some of their comments have given me some of my greatest laughs. Wising you all a Merry Christmas and a blessed 2018. Looking forward to learning much more.

Oh if it could only be so Roni, but there are jerks everywhere, and they will always be on the site . I have been hit a few times on UHH, but I have a pretty thick skin and just laugh it off, and now refuse to engage and I simply ignore the post. I have found on many occasions, a seemingly beginner question evolves and I do learn something within the thread which is what make's UHH so special to me.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Michael

Thank you for this post and wishing you the best. I have at times been reluctant to post because of the "intolerance" of some members.
