If a lens is at its optimum halfway thru its aperture range, why does automation always default to the smallest aperture available?

I would strongly suggest taking some camera lessons, asking questions here on the Hogg will and have not helped.......

Martin ... your suggestion is noted ...

Oh, BTW ... I've been a professional photographer since 1970 ....

With digital, though ... I am a novice ... got my first dig cam in 2010 ... my first DSLR in 2011 ...

But, even though I added 11 more, after that, in succeeding years ... I always thoroughly learned one, before going on to another ...

You really should stop making arrogant assumptions, Martin ...

Didn't realize you were a professional. I know you can't upload anything since you've on a dial-up, but where on the internet can we see examples of your work?

Not true ... once I shrink them, it's comparatively easy, Mark ... there are 11 postings, right here - in the Gallery ... soon to be 12 ... I do one new one a week ...

Plus there are innumerable postings - right thru many of my Topic Posts ... as you know, already ... I do two new ones per day ... well over 200, now ...

And, before coming here ... I uploaded much of my work to my FB page ... which I can't seem to access anymore ... perhaps, when I finish the upgrades ...

Since 2010 - the year in which I both - bought my first dig cam ... AND joined FB - I've uploaded well over 20,000 images, there ....
