If a lens is at its optimum halfway thru its aperture range, why does automation always default to the smallest aperture available?

You know how it goes ... you switch to SP ... and then let the camera go at it, and it immediately jumps to f29, or thereabouts ... why does it do that?

None of my cameras behave like that. Perhaps your camera is having difficulty time communicating with the lens?

That's the first time ever, that I heard something like that, I never heard of a single camera behaving like that!

Well, some of mine do - particularly, the Pentax K-50 and the 2 Nikon Intermediate DX Dig Cams (D5500, D5300) - maybe, I'm doing something wrong?

The premises in your topic are not correct.

Are you now using a random word generator to come up with topics?

My K-30, which is supposed to be a close predecessor of your K-50, doesn't do that. Often I just set it to "P" and automation select a good starting point for the settings I actually use, and it always selects reasonable values.

After I wrote it, RE ... I did realize how ridiculous it sounds, but, then, I remembered you'd said that the lens I use on it - the Tamron 18-200XR - needs to be "set" in the menus ... and I remember I responded to you - I didn't tell it anything .... do you remember that, RE?

So, I suspect the reason it does that, is quite simply - BECAUSE it hasn't been "set" in the menus - whatever that means. I have looked to see if there are adjustments I can make, but, there aren't, RE. So, I suspect you don't have the same problem with your K-30, because you use only Pentax lenses, right?

Then it may be time to send in your camera for repair, as there is certainly something wrong with it!

Thereyago, with your negative comments again, Gene ... and THIS particular one is vague as all get-out ... I do wish you'd stop!

The premise I stated is a correct one, based on my specific experience ....

Which one, S?

The Pentax K-50, the Nikon D5300, the Nikon D5500 ... or all three?
