I have had severe pain in my right hip and right side lower back for quite some time. That limits my ability to walk for more than 100 yds. I dislike cold weather. So, the combination has hampered my photography. I still shoot at family gatherings and one or two short vacations per year in NC/SC. Love wildlife & landscape. I'm hoping my hip/back will improve by the time we go on a Danube River cruise next August. I do spend a great deal of time online.

I realized that I haven't had much time for photography lately. Between the arrival of winter and the arrival of the holidays, I barely have a free moment. I like to drive for 30 - 60 minutes and then walk around taking pictures. With all the seasonal chores, holiday celebrations, and get-togethers, I haven't been able to do that. I'm free for the rest of today and tomorrow, so I can get things done around the house, but on Wednesday, more activities kick in. I guess it's better than having nothing at all to do.

Have any of you noticed a decrease in you photo time?

You are not alone Jerry. Christmas happens to be a busy time of the year with the family.
By the way, Merry Christmas.

I do know, I've been meaning to explain that I don't always reply. I have been very busy
taking care of my father he's 86, has cancer, and is almost blind from macular degeneration.
I think it takes more of a mental toll on me than physical. I'm always looking in on the hog, because it gives me some
escape and I see all the beauty God has given us. Everyone know I'm juggling two homes, two lives, five grandkids, and I'm still thankful just to be here. God is good. Smilenangler...

Yes, but not because of the holidays. I had surgery on my right index finger right after Thanksgiving. Try operating a camera without using your index finger, but having it and a bulky bandage in he way.

That sucks! Do you have a wired remote? Out of curiosity I just tried it and found that I could hold my camera and remote with my left hand, while still using my right to hold the camera also and could trigger the remote with my left index finger. Works quite well.

I agree this time of the year is extremely busy. And living in the cold northeastern part of the country adds additional interferences for someone who hates being in the cold weather. I thought I would focus on practicing interior shots using flash and other sources of light since that is an area where I need to grow exponentially. But there is only so much I can shoot inside my house. I just got a new D750 and the cold wet weather today is killing me not being able to drive to the shoreline communities for some photography. So right now I am spending next to no time with the holiday season and cold weather as stumbling blocks. If you come up with any ideas, short of moving to warmer climates, let me know.

Yes, and that's why I quit shooting RAW and worked on my camera knowledge and setup for better SOOC images.

Less post processing adds shooting time back into my schedule.

Image quality...good as ever. I'm not seeking a Pulitzer, and I'm happy to gift and print/hang my work.

Living single and limiting my hobbies to three helps as does living in an RV.

It's not the processing as much as taking the time to get out there and shoot. I can, and usually do, process intermittently, so it's not an issue. During the year, it's no big deal taking an hour or two out of the day to go somewhere with my camera. Today is the only day in the foreseeable future that I won't have to leave the house. Not that I'm complaining because if these events weren't fun, I wouldn't go.

My son has two days off, so we're going to finish decorating inside and out. That will give me something to photograph. It's also snowing hard, so I have no desire to drive anywhere.

I retired in 2010. Since I retired every year gets busier and busier.
Much of my time in a week is consumed by babysitting each of my granddaughters. On Tuesdays we pick up my oldest granddaughter from school, do homework, take her to religion, pick her up, feed her dinner. That’s the nearby granddaughter here on L.I.
Wednesday night we drive to NJ & sleep over so my youngest granddaughter’s parents can go to work on Thursday. We watch her all day Thursday & get home about 9 pm.
Then there’s fishing club, card games, Over 50 Club, etc., etc., etc.
I’m exhausted.
Time for photography? When?

I sympathize with you. I know a couple of people who are taking care of sick relatives.

Mark, I had severe pain in my left hip, as well as pain in my right hip, right leg, and lower back. I had the left hip replaced this past March and even though there is still some soreness in the hip since it takes about a year to fully heal, all the other pain is gone. It's called "referred pain". One bad joint can affect your whole body. I put up with the pain for years before going to see a surgeon. My mistake!

Definitely a busy time. I went shopping yesterday morning, and the traffic was heavy and rushing. It was the same with people in the stores. Except for food, all of my shopping is done online.

Snowing over here also, Jerry. As far as I'm concerned, if it snows Christmas Eve and melts away the day after Christmas, that's a perfect winter!

I was in the middle of the Thomas fire North of Los Angeles. I have thought many times about photographing the fire and related incidents, both night and day. The truth is I have plenty of time and desire but simply don’t want to go out. Who among us is so lacking for time that we cannot get out for a few minutes? We make the choice to do something else instead.

Right! Life is composed of a series of setting priorities. Time for PP,ing RAW - try after dark when other people sleep - no time lost from shooting. Who needs 8 hours sleep anyway? Of course it helps to be retired with no fixed responsibilities.
