City of Paris from Sacre Coeur

Originally 11 shots camera held in the vertical (portrait) orientation mounted on a monopod.

Canon 6d / 24-105 L lens
ISO 400
focal length 75mm
aperture f/22

time of day: 3:30PM Paris time

Stitched all 11 frames in Lightroom, then used Lightroom to crop and level, resulting in probably only 9 of the frames still in play.

Exported from Lightroom as a jpeg and then ran through MacPhun Aurora HDR package to bring out the detail and a little more punch.

JPG file size was approx 36MB, resized using Preview on my iMac.

Beautiful church.

When we visited Paris, we came upon Sacre Coeur from the south and we saw the lonnnggg line of steps. We made our way up the steps stopping every so often and resting before finally making our way to the top. After touring the church, we came out on the west side and found to our surprise a series of lifts that could have been used instead of climbing those blasted steps.

Moral of the story; study up on your venue before you go there.

That is a funny story, we knew about the little train from the booklet with the Paris Pass our son and Daughter in law gave us. I should have taken this picture from the very top in front of the church and then I would have got the Eiffel Tower in.

Since I was the one that wanted to go there and led our little band of travelers, I hear about it to this day. That trip was in 2002.

Judging by the result, I wonder why you did not use the HDR, clarity, contrast and vibrance controls in Lightroom to punch up the picture.

Thanks for the tip ejones. If I ever get there I will definitely go to the west side. I will have to search for the church, I keep hearing so,much about it.

Hi and thanks for your comments. I used Aurora for the HDR as it works on a single photo, I thought to use the HDR in LR you had to have multiple shots and then use photo merge and then HDR. I did use a bit on the clarity slider but not the contrast. The vibrance is somewhat of an unknown to me as to how to use it (sliders for all the colours).

Anyway, I went back in to try to do it in LR and although I have not got the sky anywhere near to the same look, I did get more punch into the picture and also noticed that the detail was better in a couple of areas where Aurora mushed some detail and colours.

I still am quite a beginner with LR and PS but I really appreciate your comments and I can see if I spend more time on my LR and PS skills, there probably won't be much need for other programs. (well except for topaz plugins, I do have a couple of favourites there.

Certainly worth the visit as was the rest of the Paris area. We took the Montmartre Funicular up which cuts out quite a few steps,

And the church is quite a site to behold as well.
