For those who may still be waiting on the big store lists, I had originally ordered a D850 from Adorama but no prospective delivery date on the horizon. Canceled and ordered through YM Camera, a small business out of Youngstown, OH on 11 November. Received my camera today (30 November). After ordering, I received emails from the store's VP letting me know the status (including an apology that he couldn't get me one from the batch he received a couple days after my order!). I'm liking the small business drive there.
Good for you!
According to today's post at Nikon Rumors the big boys are still weeks behind. Either production is very slow or Nikon has anothe rhit on their hands.

I sold my D810 in anticipation of getting the D850. It took a full three months to arrive. Meanwhile my D500 made the wait bearable.
Samys in Los Angeles thinks it will be mid January before they have D850s in quantity to sell on the shelf.

I think my D500 will still get some use. I'm not digging the nearly $1000 additional cost to bring the D850 from 7 to 9 fps.

Not quite local for me (Virginia Beach), but I like supporting small businesses.
YM Camera is third generation owned and operated. I guess the purpose of my post is to let anybody who's frustrated waiting on the big retailers that there is another option (after rereading my original post, it came off kind of braggy). I PMed them on Facebook, got an answer back almost immediately and ordered from their website.
After reading all of the stories about how hard it would be to get a D850, I ordered one from Amazon the first week in Nov. Their estimated delivery date was Jan. 10 to Feb 14, which is about when I was wanting to get one (after the holidays and with more time to "save up"). It arrived in exactly 3 weeks ... a mixed blessing as I am having loads of fun learning this sucker but now will have to come up with the cash much sooner than I had anticipated.

YM, or Youngstown Microfilm has been in business for a long, long time. I used to film high school football games and we all took our film to Youngstown Microfilm to have it processed. Their labs operated all night Friday and Saturday nights processing for about 50 local football games a week. They always had camera's for sale and have transitioned into quite the camera store.

When it's harder to get something is actually creates MORE demand than if it was easier to get. It also tells the consumer that they should feel privileged to get one. Oh, consumers are so simple minded. Look at the press this has been given here on UHH. Every day someone posts, "where can I get one" "I finally got mine" "mine came on the brown truck" "mine came on the blue and white truck" "got mine from a small retail store" "I got mine from B&H",on and on it goes. And every day someone has to wait a little longer and this actually sells more D850's. Why, because of the image of a high demand camera must also be an OUTSTANDING camera because it seem everyone wants one. Oh, just love the simple minds of the consumer.

Nikon rumors recently provided a status update on cameras ordered from Adorama, Amazon and B&H Photo. Amazon had the shortest turn around time, followed by Adorama with B&H coming in a distant third. Get ready to hear form the B&H acolytes.

I did the same with B&H and Cameta Camera. I was waiting forever at B&H, but my camera is already on its way from Cameta (less than 2 wk wait). I love B&H, but they got overwhelmed on this one!
