If you have a mac, open the picture in "Preview" and the shutter count is in the Exif data.

It's easier (and quicker) if it's right on the display, no need to read file data...OR at least embed it in the file name but use 6 digits not 4...as an option at least.
How often do you need to check your shutter count?

I check mine every day!
Really the only time I think it might matter is when buying/selling the camera, or possibly for repairs, same as an odometer on a car!

About as frequently as you need to check your blood pressure. And yes, I can do that too. Interestingly enough, my BP is fine when I check it properly, take averages, and chart it over time. The medical profession might want me to take drugs and charge me for them, but I have better information than they do...
They also keep changing their rules. I'm happy enough at 121 over 82 at my age.

Could someone recommend a website or software that is safe to use to get the shutter count for my Nikon.
Thanks...Dan
Nikon is easy - it's in the exif data in each file
Just download the free EXIFTOOL here:
https://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/And you can read the tag that lists the shutter count.

Go to: Show Inspector (cmd-i), > More Info (i) > EXIF > image number
And then instead of showing the image number, it will show you the image was shot with the Xth shutter activation?
You should consider Pro Camera Repair in San Diego. They should replace a shutter for around $100 less, they have a quick turnaround, and they will actually communicate with you.
