There are many, and if you google "Nikon shutter count" it will come up with many. The following one is the one I have used without a problem. http://www.nikonshuttercount.com/

I think you can also divine the shutter count from the numbering sequence that the camera assigns to the frames you shoot. Since this is limited to four digits, however, it would only be accurate to 9999.

Why doesn't Nikon just make it a menu option to display the count on the lcd? This is like trying to get your odometer reading by having to use an OBD reader for your car....

Hi Dan, I use this :https://www.camerashuttercount.com/
What I like it doesn't restrict you to the size of the jpeg. Grace

It is embedded in the EXIF of every picture taken... how much easier could it be?

No need to send an image to any website, just read the EXIF in the image... BTW - thats all the web sites do to show the shuttercount of an uploaded picture... magic right? :)

It's easier (and quicker) if it's right on the display, no need to read file data...OR at least embed it in the file name but use 6 digits not 4...as an option at least.

I agree that all cameras should show the shutter count in a menu option, not sure why the camera mfg's don't do it.... other than its a mileage counter.

For me, I am always looking at my EXIF data anyway, so having shutter count from my Nikon there was great, easy and simple.... my Canon requires software to read shutter count from the camera directly. Canon could have easily written it into EXIF but chose not to.

If you use Mac - open an image in Preview - click on Tools > Show Inspector > Exif Look for "Image Number" - this is the shutter count.

Nikons all embed the actual shutter count in the Exif data of each and every image you take with them. A dead accurate shutter count is always readily available using any full Exif data reader. I recommend P.I.E. from Picmeta.com, its free and is the most complete Exif data reader on the market.

Upload to Flicker. Then check EXIF option.

I tried that site. I uploaded a jpeg picture taken with my D610 and the site indicated there was no data available. The same on Flickr shows a shutter count of 4,685

If you use a Macintosh, open the raw (NEF) file with the "Preview" app.
Go to: Show Inspector (cmd-i), > More Info (i) > EXIF > image number
