Does one check mark each photo, or just the first in a series?

I have been to Goblin Valley State Park in Utah. I don't that you can get more remote. Great place to shoot the night sky.

Beautiful shot...care to share the technical details?

Dennis (aka Triplets)

Dennis,
Nikon D500, Nikkor 24-70mm at f/2.8. 10 second exposure, ISO 10000. I painted the rock formation in with a flashlight.

I could see a small light spot on the horizon in one direction that I suspect was Green River. Other than that, no visible light pollution.

Very good looking photo...you did good.

Thank you! I'm hoping to get back to Goblin Valley in October, 2018, with my D850 and 14-24mm. ;-)

Love what you did with the sky. I'd hang that one in my living room.

Thank you DragonsLady! I sometimes thin the secret to a good photograph is a great subject. ;-)

Nice job. When I was there I was too interested in sleeping. But I did see the night sky through the top of my tent!

I know what you mean.

Amazing shot. It would have been ten times better with the milky way behind the rocks, or with star trails. Great Job!

It was October and the Milky Way wasn't cooperative ;-), but, here's a photo from summer, 2016, of the Milky Way over the Ruby Canyon rim.

Nikon D300s, Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8. 10 Seconds at f2.8, ISO 3200. + Bleary eyes from having been canoeing for two days and staying up until the Milky Way was in the right spot. ;-)

Goblin Valley State Park is an interesting place with a great night sky. My first trip to Goblin Valley was in April and the wind was gusting to over 50mph, tents in the campground were blowing down, and there was so much grit in the air that I wasn't willing to risk opening my camera case. I went back in October when temperatures were moderate and the wind (at least when I was there) had died.

Mesmerizing! Very sharp, too. How long was your exposure?

10 second exposure. I found that while shooting at 24mm with a camera with a 1.5 crop factor that any exposure longer than 10 seconds showed movement of the stars. When using a camera without a crop factor and a wider angle lens (D3 & a 17mm focal length lens) exposures of 20 seconds didn’t show the stars visibly streaking.
