The night sky in Goblin Valley

Goblin Valley State Park is an interesting place with a great night sky. My first trip to Goblin Valley was in April and the wind was gusting to over 50mph, tents in the campground were blowing down, and there was so much grit in the air that I wasn't willing to risk opening my camera case. I went back in October when temperatures were moderate and the wind (at least when I was there) had died.

Excellent shot. Is that the Pleiades star system in the centre?

Doddy, Thank you. I enjoy photographing the stars, but I don't know much about them. The Big Dipper, the North Star, and Orion are about all I can find and identify so I don't know which are in the photo.

petercbrandt, Thank you. It is amazing to watch the night sky when you get away from city lights. A few years ago I drove up to the Colorado mountains after a long work day and thought I was exhausted when I got to where I was camping. When I looked up at the sky I pulled out a chair and sat looking at the night sky with out a hint of being tired, transfixed with its beauty.

You didn't check the store image box, so I cannot enlarge on screen, but is that a spiral galaxy in the upper right?

Love what you did with the sky. I'd hang that one in my living room.

Nice job. When I was there I was too interested in sleeping. But I did see the night sky through the top of my tent!

Amazing shot. It would have been ten times better with the milky way behind the rocks, or with star trails. Great Job!
