Or just use the Apple office apps...they do what I need to do...

Best,

I upgraded my iMac 27" 4K system as well as a MacBook Pro and have had terrible performance issues and problems with the system just hanging for no reason. When I expect out of Photoshop, I get an error that Photoshop crashed (even though it did not). It seems to play well with LR 5.7, but the High Sierra OS itself is terrible. Apple is just not the same since Steve Jobs passed. I agree with the post above - wait until a few of the "dot releases come out, then upgrade.

Not related to Lightroom, but the Mac native Contact application has some serious issues when trying to add a new contact. Apple support has determined that it is most likely related to Gmail contact accounts. New contacts disappear while keying in the information, before being saved. They are working on a solution.

I recently moved from 10.10.5 to 10.13.1 High Sierra because you have to have 10.12.x Sierra or 10.13.x High Sierra to run the Adobe Photography CC 2018 Suite. (That’s Photoshop, either Lightroom, and Bridge.)

No issues, except it broke Apple Final Cut Express 4.01, which I have used only three times since 2009 (because iMovie is so good!). Oh well... I need an excuse to learn Final Cut Pro X or Adobe Premiere...

Although not a direct photography-related issue, I have read that Microsoft Office 2011 may have some issues. I know I should think of upgrading that since MS is no longer supporting that version, but I am reluctant to move the OS to High Sierra at this time. It has also frequently been suggested that non-geeks wait until Apple releases "dot" upgrade versions like 10.13.1 or 10.13.2 before upgrading.

10.13.1 is current. Office 2011 has not been tested with it, and Microsoft no longer supports it. Office 360 works great...

I get that. I went a bridge to far with an update on a 2004 vintage Mac Pro. Now it is a Door stop until I can get it to Apple. Above my pay grade.

I hope you have a full backup and a bootable external drive.

I haven’t had any problems with High Sierra either although I just ran out of backup space on another external hard drive and have decided to get a WD 8TB network drive this time. Lots of reviews said something about Time Machine not working with High Sierra after the upgrade? I’m not terribly technical so my husband did the research for me. Does anyone know anything about that? I’d like to ditch Carbonite (I’ve had nothing but problems with them) and put the network drive in my house instead (my office is in a separate building so technically it will be off site storage). I will have one backup in my studio and one in the house.

Ok with a 2011 iMac 27
Was actually having problems with old version of Photos. New version has much more to offer.
Still like Luminar/Aurora though.

Same (although I liked Pages ‘09 better than the current version).

2 annoyances: the email client looks different and it lost some of the stored email addresses; I launced PS 5.1 and it stopped me, I had download and install some Java thing. I think Safari is faster, or so it seems (placebo effect?).

Just be sure your time machine backup drives ALL use the exact same formatting scheme as your startup drive. High Sierra has a new drive formatting scheme called APFS. The old one was Mac OS Extended, Journaled.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208033

If you ever need to start up from an older operating system on an external drive, it will not be able to read APFS-formatted drives! And you can’t format a startup drive as APFS for older operating system use...

Thanks for pointing that out.

Upgraded weeks ago and no problems with either of those two programs. Did have one small problem when the upgrade moved all of my wife's files from the Documents folder to the Cloud

Re: MS Office (2011) vs Apple software, Excel far outperforms Numbers, and Word is much better than Pages (my opinion, of course). It almost looks to me like a software maturing process, with Apple software still being a teenager. I say this despite being fully Apple-ized: two 27" iMacs, second 27" screen, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPad 2 Air, and two iPhones. I like the way all systems just work together so seamlessly and reliably. Yes, initial sticker shock, but no regrets once the money is spent.

Oh, one more Apple quibble -- I really want to be able to access my files via filenames, so I refuse to use Photos. I store all my images using the Finder. If I ever decide to use Photos I will still keep all my images (as backup, I suppose) using my own filing system. I think I read the Photos may soon have filename handling capability, which I would really welcome.

BTW, the Apple Automator is really great for moving, copying, and managing images via filename. In fact, I use it to modify filenames in a bulk-like manner.
