I'll bet you have a tough time finding black shorts, Lee ....

You know, it could also be said .... one actually BECOMES conspicuous, by wearing all black, from head to toe ....

I disagree.

You have that right, Lee ....

Personally, I think - if you want to not be seen ... you're better off blending in ... with whatever the main color scheme is ....

How about a bright colored T-shirt thats says "YES, I Am The Photographer".

Oh, I'm game ... that'd work for me ... let's see ... shall it be - Shocking Pink, or Luscious Lime, or Grand Canary, or, perhaps - Chartreuse?

Maybe something a bit more subdued, like Cool Coral, or perhaps, Indigo Blue ... or more contemporary ... like Sea-Foam ....

Decisions, Decisions, huh, James???

The only time I’ve found black to be somewhat less than appropriate was when I was shooting a wedding on the white sandy beach of Lake Tahoe. Of course, that might have been because I was the only one there wearing shoes. People did stare at me as I moved around the venue snapping pictures. I was almost embarrassed. Fortunately, my discomfort was short-lived. The minister hurriedly finished the ceremony as the glowing bride seemed to be experiencing some distress; she went into labor. It was a short wedding, but a rousing reception.............sans bride.

Now, that made me laugh, BHC ... so, they went on with the reception w/o the bride, huh? ... Because she had to go and get delivered?

DeLIGHTful!!!!!!

BTW .... why didn't you wear Sandy Beach colors, so you could blend in?

This was a rather “impromptu” wedding. The invitations were delivered at a family gathering by the bride’s father, who showed up in displaying a bad attitude, coveralls with a suit jacket (ala Jed Clampett) and an old, but obviously well oiled very serviceable double-barrel shotgun. Since I had acquired a reputation with the family for providing photographic services when the timing or money was short, I was asked to shoot the wedding discretely (i.e., concealing the bride’s “condition” as much as possible.) I should note that, in addition to the black garments I donned, I also wore a black Tenba vest, for lenses, film and “other accessories” that I might need. I had no other appropriate clothing for the occasion (at least none that I wanted to wear on the beach). Let it be noted that black clothing on a sunny sandy beach in the summer can get QUITE uncomfortable, even at 6000’ altitude.

It should be noted that the reception was just as impromptu as the wedding and quite informal. The groom had been banned from the birthing area, so he returned for the reception. The main course was Budweiser.

Why on EARTH would the groom be banned from the birthing area? ... His offspring (or, wasn't it?) ... if it was, he has a right to see the birth!

Black clothing does, indeed ... get very hot, doesn't it?

And that Tenba vest over it all - I'm sure - sure didn't help ....

You wouldn't happen to have a pic of that vest, wouldya, BHC? ... does it come in colors? ... how obvious is it? .... Tenba in huge letters on the back, or no?

So, listen ... that father of the bride ... sounds like he was fit to be tied, huh? .... Was he gunning for the groom, or what?

Well, the groom was in no shape, either behaviorally (something to do with having consumed a considerable amount of mixed adult beverages) or hygienically (partially the same reason and partially the venue).

As to the vest, they came in black, grey, brown and sand. I’m attaching a picture of one offered by B&H (with, believe it or not, instructions for use). Tarmac and Banana Republic also made excellent photo vests.

B&H item, B&H watermark.

$49.95, I believe. Originally >$100.

The groom was more than drunk. BAC exceeded .30, which is almost 4 X impaired level. He was unruly, combative and filthy.....while he was still conscious. He looked much better in the confinement ward at the hospital the next day; unfortunately, I could not take my camera in.

Wow! ... Why on earth did she even marry him?

Scared of the father with the freshly-oiled shotgun, huh?

Thanks for vest tip, BHC ....

Ah, Bill - so THAT's the reason the groom got drunk as a skunk!
