I was reading article about the Holga camera and how it inspired the creators of Instagram. Beeing one of the cheapest and in general terms worst film camera ever made many people love it. The flaws in the pictures are the opposite of the sterilized perfection in modern digital cameras. It seems like people love the Holga look in pictures, Instagram and endless Holga like filters in camera apps are the prove. What do you think?. Do Holga cameras and Holga apps and filters make pictures better or are good pictures only those taken with tha sharpest glass in front of high end digital cameras without this kind of editing?
It seems from the legacy of Holga reflected in f.x. Instagram that photography is about a lot more than sharp lenses and pixel peeping.
Have you ever used a Holga?
Do you use Instagram?
Do you use Holga filters or other similar or retro filters in your post processing?
Did you know that Holga is even today used for wedding photography by professional wedding photorgraphers?
I've used a Holga, it has one of the most beautiful and classic B&W film looks of any camera ever made.
Michelle Bates Has made a nice living with a Holga. It's just another way of doing photography and making unique fotos and art.

When I heard about Holga and saw some images, I bought one that took film. But I did not like having to send it off for developing (and still have the film in the camera!!). Later, I saw that Holga makes pinhole lenses to fit on DSLRs and bought one. Wonderful! And even in color if you want to go that way. Attaching two images.
piano w/ holga
holga portrait no 1
I have two Holgas, and use them.

I wouldn't even consider a Holga a camera!
I would never use it! Like most UHH said it's the photographer and not the camera so why I want to use the Holga?

So, do you imply that all cameras are the same? -- and the only thing that matters is the photographer? I think that many (almost all??) photographers would disagree with you. Maybe you should see what you can do with a camera like a Holga . . . on the other hand never mind because you're already so convinced.

I actually don't think so. Just repeat what most UHH's said if you search this (and other forum for that matter) you will see most will said it's the photographer and not the camera. However, regardless I wouldn't use the Holga.
The Holga can be a great camera. I had one but I rarely used it and eventually loaned it to a friend for her undergrad thesis series. Never got it back from her. She made absolutely fantastic work with it at the time. Hopefully she still uses it. I have began using a Soviet made Lubbitel I was given and just got a new Polaroid this week. It is a nice refreshing break from the perfection that much of my work demands.
Dave Burnett always has his with him and does great work with it.

Let's see... it is a box in which an image is projected from outside on to an inside surface, therefore it is absolutely a camera.

I could never see the appeal of the Holga. It produces pictures I'd be disappointed with as a kid, using my cheap camera. But, I guess variety is the spice of life, and Holga offers something different.
I have a Holga 120 film camera. I can only shoot outside because it doesn't have a flash or a hotshoe. I also only shoot black &white in this thing.
The seals leak light like a screen you have flare, no control whatsoever. I love it.
The look of the pictures can't be duplicated in photoshop. Unfortunately, as far as I know, Holga no longer makes these toy cameras.
There are 1000's of them used for sale online. You can get one for less than $100, photography doesn't get cheaper than that.
I have Pentax and Yashica medium format cameras, the Holga has a different purpose.
