Richard ... you'll have to forgive me ... if I'm wrong ....

But that image does NOT look square ....

It's decidedly more "long" than it is "wide"

So, either it was NOT shot in square format ... or, you changed the size in PP ....

The Distractor, huh?

Wouldn't know ...

Only use it for menus, and looking at the shot images ....

Thassit!!!!

Whilst you are looking at the shot images that is when you miss the "action", and that "action" may be something as simple as catching an expression.
Nowdays I only use it for setting up the camera, not when shooting, except when the camera is tripod mounted and I am using ND grads.

On occasion I use mine for settings - eg, moving the pin point focus off centre instead of focus locking - just another advantage of EVF?

The image is 1080x1080
I just downloaded the image from UHH and it is still 1080x1080.

Hi Chris - Hi Richard
This is a true illusion - the verticle looks longer than the horizontal on my screen - so I measured it on the screen - and found it to be square! I think that the illusion is created because there is more room on the screen's horizontal than it's verticle.

Oh, now ... isn't THAT interesting?

So, the concept I've described here, isn't, actually - so innovative, as it would seem, then ....

My LUMIX LX100 also has this feature.

I should've explained, Richard ... I rarely look at shot images when I'm out shooting ....

Usually, I just scan through them to count them, before I upload them to the PC, right after getting home from the shoot ...

Most, of the time, I don't even flip open the screen ....

This way ... I don't get - yup ... distracted ....

Y'all just want a medium format camera, not a 35mm. Go shoot a Yashica with 2 1/4 by 2 1/4 film if nothing else.

Really, Tony?

In the menus? ... You can bring up a reformat option, which allows you to select square?

That's terrific!!!!

That's interesting, Del ...

So, a WIDE-screen actually creates the effect it is l-o-n-g-e-r than wiiiiiiiiide, huh?

Thanks, Del ....

Sorry, Richard ....

No, not in the menus. There’s a switch on the lens barrel that offers various formats;
3:2 16:9 1:1 4:3. Very quick to access and switch between the various formats.
I’ve grown very attached to the little camera. Results are usually quite acceptable and when not so good, usually operator error.

Sure they do, BHC ... I'll bet the R & D Development teams of all ten major camera manufacturers, regularly scan these web pages to get ideas for their next innovative new camera designs ... don't you believe they don't!!!! .....

Now, be on the lookout ... I'll bet the square-format affordable DSLR - is - now - just around the next corner!!!!!!

Right, Chris; the corner of the galaxy. 😂

My Yashica is a bit larger than I'm looking for. I can get a Hallelblad, but I'd like a simpler - and less expensive - digital camera.
