Being retired I have lots of time to ..... get sucked in!!! No big deal. Everyone needs a hobby... including me...

There was one on whether or not you tether your lens cap to your lens... Fourteen pages later... Very enlightening... People like to go bat-crazy over stuff like that...

Yeah, but there was a rather protracted debate in there between Mark and I ... which really didn't have much to do with tethering ....

95% Horiz
5 % Vert

If I crop I resize to the ration of 5x7.

Yes - a good ratio - you can get two 5x7" prints from one A4 plus white borders.

Depends on what you are shooting. I shoot mostly landscapes and Panos, so the horizontal format works best for me. If you're shooting portraits or street scenes, vertical is probably best.

In the two shots here (top horizontal, the bottom a 4-shot pano) these formats work well for me . . .

Did your Desert Pano start off as four verticals?

Or four from an 11x14 .... how about that, Del?

I'm still trying to get the 11x14 paper out of my A4 printer

Sometimes you need to crop with a computer while at other times, a paper cutter...

Ah, right, MB ... cropping with a cutter ... then it becomes a right cropper, huh?

If you get it wrong in computer - you can adjust it. It would not be easy to hide a join in the paper.

I did once stick two A4 horizontals together. With care I made it work quite well, and framed the pic. That was 20 years ago.
I have a "Posterazor" app, which can create anything up to wall size posters from A4 or A3 paper. It can take off a designated margin on a horizontal and a vertical side. This means you can also add a grid "window frame" effect, which disguises the joins. For what it is and what it cost it works extremely well.

Great question. I shoot a lot of video and stills. Because 16x9 is the size I use for my video
I have been shooting this size for my photos for years. To be honest I don't like vertical shots.
i think it is the TV's we have in our houses all being a 16x9 HD.
Someone said years ago that technology and the computer have locked out work
into what this format can do. So true.
