By all means, we certainly don't want a bunch of eggheads who have actually devoted some time and effort to studying a problem have their say about it, do we ?

Who cares? We don't need no egg heads telling what we already knew. All this science stuff is just anti godly. Bah humbug!

And then there are those deeper questions: 1) How did everything start (if, indeed, is hasn't always been here) ?; and 2) Does all this somehow mean something ?; and 3) If it means something, what does it mean ?

Beats me.

Boom, it started...it is entirely random...your existence...my existence...all existence is purely random. It is so random and so beyond the comprehension of most people that they conceive of explanations and look for reasons when in fact no explanation or reason is necessary.

The universe is so vast that it has infinite possibilities and this planet with its creatures are just one of the possible outcomes...you really should not read anymore into than that...everything else is pure speculation. It means nothing, we as a creature of the earth are just that creatures with a finite existence just like our planet and our sun. We are nothing in comparison with what is around us. That fact can be frightening to some but that's the fact.

You are correct science has nothing to do with fantasy, myth and legends...it deals is the practical REAL existence. Everything else is fertilizer

This is beyond me, I'll stick to watching The Big bang Theory. BTW, I also have the series," The Cosmos" by Carl Sagan. See you in the Delta quadrant.

However, there is always the possibility that it never did "start" but rather that it always has been and will be.

Just hope they don't start messing with it and we wink out of existence.

Collide a few particles here and there, open up a giant black hole that will suck the world into it, and we can kiss everything goodbye as we vanish.

The trouble with science is that just when you think you have all your ducks in a row along comes another duck

But that's the fun part of science!

"The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not 'Eureka!' (I found it!) but 'That's funny ...'"

How true.

I published scientists for some 30 years and every time they successfully did something they said now that is interesting but what does it mean?

Michael Faraday was asked what the importance of his discovery of electro-magnetics might be and he replied, "Of what use is a new born baby?"

Now, imagine life without electricity.

I was contemplating writing a lengthier piece with reference to various subatomic particles and what is their significance. Then I read what you wrote and realized no one could have said it better.

In the beginning ... God ...

However, I'm glad for all the advances mankind has been allowed to seek, explore, and sometimes conquer. Science is a great thing, but we've only begun to scratch the edges of the depths of the knowledge that God has for us.

I dunno, Amy. I keep looking inside and find Cthulhu. Is that good or should I be worried?

I wouldn't worry until Cthulu finds you.......

The "Old Ones" will take you where the light is afraid of the dark and creatures that make you scream by just looking at them, abound.

H.P. Lovecraft is one of my favorites.....

Lovecraft was great. His At the Mountains of Madness is probably my favorite.
