Thanks for looking and for your kind comment, Mike!
Angela was kind enough to send me some milkweed seeds and I will be joining the effort to Save Our Monarchs! I will definitely add Joe-Pye weed to my list of nectar plants to grow. Weeds are one of the things I seem to be really good at growing!
Very good. They are pretty amazing. It takes more than one generation for them to complete their migration route from Mexico to Canada and back. We are the last stop, and the ones born here somehow make their way back to a relatively small area in Mexico that their great grandparents came from.
I think the weak link in the chain is the second and third step in the migration because of the lack of Milkweed plants now for breeding in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, etc. We have a lot of Milkweed here in the North, because there is not much row crop farming happening, so that is not such a worry here. We do want to make sure the adults have adequate food sources to get started on the long journey back south. They strongly prefer Joe Pye weed for nectar.

Thanks, Angela. It gives me so much hope for next year and the year after that and . . . ! I had decided that Monarchs had me on a "DO NOT VISIT" list. I suppose I'll be out every day from now till frost looking for him or one of his brothers.
Sherry, I was on that same list for years and all I can say is.... plant it and they will come!!! At least that's what happened to me!!
