Last year as I was overwintering a Sansevieria plant (Snake Plant; Mother-in-Law's Tongue) on the enclosed porch I noticed four stems of buds growing from the plant. I never saw the blooms - don't know if the buds died before blooming or the blooms are very short-lived. It is very pot-bound and I was considering repotting it about three weeks ago when I discovered another stem of buds. I dared not disturb it and have been watching it very closely. It has bloomed! I have never seen one bloom before. In research, I discovered that blooming is indeed rare for them and is generally brought on by stress, typically the stress of being pot-bound. So, I'm not sure this plant will ever see a new pot.

Hoping I can soon catch it with blooms all up and down!

Well captured, beautiful flowers. Did you 'catch' the fragrance? When mine bloomed, years ago, it smelled delightful.

Thank you for looking and your kind comment, Doug. I had brought the plant into the kitchen to shoot and didn't notice any aroma. After reading your comment, I went and gave it a close sniff - quite sweet.

Sherry, interesting plant. Thank you for the detailed explanation as to why. Photos are excellent.

Fantastic shots, Sherry, and a most unusual bloom! I had a Sansevieria several years ago, and it took me forever to find out where that wonderful scent was coming from on the patio. I had no idea that the plant blooms when it's stressed, so I learned something today!

Thanks, nim. I appreciate your kind comment. I've been around this type of plant my entire life and this is the first one I have ever seen bloom.

Thanks so much, Greg. I said I wouldn't repot it, but I'm not going to have a choice. It's in the plastic pot it came in and has burst that pot from top to bottom in three places. Wonder how long it'll be before it gets stressed again.

Thank you, Angela. You probably repot yours every time it looks a little crowded -- stop it!
The blooms of yesterday are dead and gone today. It may be that the blooms typically only last one day, but I can't help but wonder if changing its location, light, humidity (oh, my) made it drop the blooms so soon. Plenty more buds about to burst forth - we'll see what they do.

Thank you, Donna. The scent has now permeated the kitchen and although I find it a pleasant aroma, my sinuses don't really agree. Since we seem to be having summer again, I may put it back outside while it finishes blooming - but moving it again may stress it - but, it likes stress (weirdo).
