I have not seen very much anger at Adobe for pulling the plug on Lightroom 6. I guess they made enough money off of us that they feel that we are no longer relevant. I am investigating alternative packages and I was curious to know what any has come with. I like what I see in Luminar Neptune but they are no longer offering trial packages. Others that have interested me are Affinity Photo, and ACDSee Photo Studio which looks a lot light LR. I would like to hear back from members. Thanks,

Raider Fan

A lot of things piss me off but adobe isn't one of them. Before the CC versions I would buy the stand alone PS upgrades as soon as they were released. The cost was not that much different than what I pay now for PS and LR plus the upgrades are more frequent.

When one considers the initial costs of both programs and the frequent upgrades, the monthly charge is a bargain. Do the math...

Alien skin x3 exposure is worth a look, there is a 30 day trial. Its the most lightroom like along with some better features. E.g presets which when you hover over them show on the main window. Its pretty much library and develop modules of lightroom pretty much. Maybe watch a few of the getting started videos to see if it appeals. On1 raw 2018 is good but not really lightroom like.

Whine, whine and whine some more. The only constant is change. Deal with it...

Not me! I'm thrilled with the new stuff that came out this month.

They did not "pull the plug" on Lightroom 6. In fact, it got an update this week to 6.13. I think they said it would get another update or two before the end of the year. In fact, you can still buy Lightroom 6 if you want something permanently on your computer to process images from all the cameras you now have.

There is no question that Lightroom 6 will continue to run and have a long life. The only thing that stops is the ACR updates. So, if you buy a new camera next year and shoot RAW, you will have to use the Adobe (provided for free) DNG Converter that will match your new camera.

Rather than be P'd Off, I am quite happy with all the additional tools, features and capabilities they put in the $10 per month plan. And further, I'm thrilled they have kept the price so low!

That said, google "best photo editing software" or "best photo editing apps" and you'll see plenty of great choices, including Adobe's own Photoshop Elements that is always cheap during the holiday shopping rush.

Full confession: I am pissed off at the Adobe group that is responsible for the stupid renaming game they played on us.

I'm not fond of the pay as you go plan either. As such, I've stuck with CSPS6. I've upgraded with each version since 2. There are those who feel they have to have the latest whiz bang app that has been added on a regular basis. So, for them, the monthly subscription plan works best. I'm still using enlargers I purchased in the late 60s. No need to upgrade. When I find that there is something PS doesn't do for me any more, then I'll look into other options. However, I've upgraded systems more often lately than I have software.

Half of me truly misses my enlarger from the 60s. The other half does not miss any of that process.

If you haven't looked at it yet, you should add on1 Photo RAW to your list of alternatives to consider. I made the decision this week to cut the cord with Adobe Lightroom, migrated everything to Photo RAW and moved my copy of LR to my file of seldom used applications in case I need to do something with an older image and need LR to do that. I'm really impressed with the strides on1 has made over the past year, their consistent and free improvements throughout the year, prioritizing feature additions based on customer polls, excellent customer service support and amazing video training programs to improve customer photo skills and software understanding/use. Oh and they offer a free trial before you invest anything. Good luck.

Nope.

I do not use LR. I use ACDSee for basic HDD organization and Adobe Bridge for other needs.
