Well, MW ... I'm so glad I found something to amuse you ...

But, strange as it may seem ... just such occurrences HAVE happened ....

BTW ... I wouldn't store lens caps in a sock, either ... but, since NO Socks doesn't use them, apparently ... I suggested he might hold the cap between his toes ...

I think you should keep everything in an hermetically sealed clear plastic bag to be on the safe side. Frankly, when I'm out and about shooting I put the cap in my pocket when I start my shoot and put it back on the lens when I'm done or take a break, which could be a few hours later. The thought of a tethered lens cap swinging around and banging into the camera and lens for a couple of hours seems really silly and would drive me bonkers.

Do you think I keep gravel, sand, grit or peanut butter in my pockets? I have never seen accumulated lint or anything else on a lens cap in any pocket of my pants. Perhaps you need to buy better pants or speak to the person who does your laundry.

I do my own laundry, MW ....

And, perhaps my lint trap isn't as effective as it could be ...

As far as buying better pants .... you can take THAT one up with my tailor ...

It does me, actually, MW - occasionally ... especially when it gets wound around the camera strap ...

But, hey ... with practice ... you can nip THAT in the bud, within seconds!!!!!

It's only inconvenient when you want to shoot something at your feet .... and how often do you do that?

As far as it being Goofy-looking ... who cares?

Mickey Mouse? ... or, Donald Duck?

How often do I shoot pointing my camera down? About as often as I use it pointing up.

You always seem to champion certain beliefs for the oddest reasons. If you had just said, "I'm clumsy and careless and tend to lose lens caps so I tether them", I could accept that. But your main argument seems to be that it keeps lens caps, and, by extension, your lenses cleaner. I'm sorry, but that's just hilarious.

I think they only swing around when you're shooting a Tarzan movie ....

Otherwise, they stay pretty still ... but don't get anywhere near Cheetah - okay?

Try shooting sports/wildlife and actions handheld and then tell me it stays pretty still.

Well, now ... when I'm on Safari ... I use those chrome caps ...

Then I get them spinning ... and the wildlife charges right AT me!!!!

That's how I get all the neat shots I do ...

Responding to your many outrageous and over the top notions relaxes me before I go to bed. Unlike some people here who treat you with unrestrained insults and disdain, and accuse you of troll like behavior, I just find your ideas bizarrely amusing and actually missed you when you didn't post for a few days.

The main reason, I do believe - for folks to use tethers on their caps - is so they don't lose them ...

If you tend to shove a lens cap into a pocket, in order not to lose it, then - you're faced with a potential lint problem ....

Which is something a tethered cap - does not fall prey to ... so - it's a full circle ...

A fait accompli - if you will ...

Well, thanks for that, anyway ...

It was a full week ... not by choice ... call it a forced retirement ...

And, yes ... although I didn't miss the insults ... I did miss the banter ...

I will repeat what I said before, There is no pocket lint problem. Just conjuring up the thought that one could theoretically exist is not the same as it actually existing.

Well, then, clearly, MW ... your laundry machines (and, perhaps, your laundress, too) are all perfect ....

But, I hate to tell you this ... but stuff does move around in those machines ...

Particularly true ... if you're a pet-owner ....

If not, then - quite possibly ... you are well-relieved ...
