Gas was selling for $2.99 a gallon at many stations along I-75 in South Georgia yesterday. Even in South Florida - not usually known for cheap gas - it was selling for $3.15.

Love it!

Looks like we might be hooking up the travel trailer to the Titan and doing some camping this summer and fall.

We are finally getting back to 2.99 a gallon here in OK. Although in my town it's 20 cents higher right now at 3.19 a gallon. But filled up yesterday while it was cheap. It's nice to see that gas isn't going the other direction for once.

True, but comparatively in respect to cost and personal income, gas is dirt cheap compared to 1968.

Using the inflation calculators on the web...

We were paying 29 cents a gallon for gas in NYC back in 1968 when I got out of the Army and bought my first car. The inflation calculator says that 29 cents has been inflated until today it would take $1.92 to match it in buying power. So, at $3 a gallon in 2012 prices gas is about 66% higher in price than it was in 1968. However, my income has increased by far more than 66% compared to 1968 when I started working for AT&T Long Lines at $6,000 a year.

Comparatively, gas is far cheaper today than it was 44 years ago. Unless you're poor, of course. But at 29 cents a gallon, it was expensive to the poor back then as well.

Inland Empire - California, I am happy when I see $3.69 but have seen as low as $3.59.

When I got my first car, gas was around $0.90 give or take. I remember throwing a huge fit when it jumped to $1.50.

I had the same reaction when it eventually rose to $2.50.

These days, I look back with great fondness at $2.50 gas.

don't get distracted by low gas prices - they are so only because (pick)
1) its an obama conspiracy
2) its a tea party conspiracy
3) its a wall street conspiracy
4) its a sign the government is trying to take away your religious freedom.

I don't get distracted by the prices, Doc, just enjoy the low ones when they're around!

And I vote for: all of the above.

$2.48 9/10 here as of yesterday for unleaded. That's the cheapest it's been in quite some time.

And here in Brisbane, Australia it's currently $1.35 per litre or $5.11 per gallon. US prices are cheap by comparison.
