Two of my friends have Nikon D7100 and they are both VERY DISAPPOINTED by the lack of sharpness in their images. One has lenses that perform faultlessly on his previous camera. Both cameras have been checked for focus adjustment. When Nikon were contacted their response was they would look at possibly fixing the cameras as a CUSTOMER PAYING for a REPAIR. Both cameras have been like they are from when they were new. One of the owners has virtually lost interest in photography as he is so disappointed with the camera.

The problems is not with your equipment!

I would like to ask you a simple question, do you do your part when you use any of the lenses you mentioned in your post? Anything wrong using the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 non VR on a tripod? Its quality is well known.
The 35mm f1.8 and 18-55 kit lens are very good optics. If you are referring to the 70-300 VR I am in total agreement, it is a sharp lens.
Review your techniques because I am sure there is something you are not doing right.
Any of those lenses should give you sharp images although I admit that I had the 18-105 and I was not very happy with it although others will tell you all the contrary.

I have the original kit lens 18-105, a Tamron 18-50 (non VR, regrettably), 35 MM Nikkor prime lens, and a Nikon 18-55 VR. My 70-300 is great for longer distances and as sharp as any. Thanks.

I can't speak for the Tamron 18-50 or the 35mm prime, but I have the 18-105, the 18-55 and the 70-300. All provide sharp images. Many of them are posted on this site. I would suggest that you post some of the photos that you are least pleased with here for analysis. Leave the EXIF data attached and click on the 'Save Original' button when uploading.

No longer have my Nikons but my 7100 with the 35mm prime was probably the sharpest combo I've ever had. I sometimes regret selling off that system but I'm too heavily invested in other brands and didn't want to dig another lens hole.

imagemeister Thank you for the comment. I know I am 'sticking my neck out' making such a statement but facts are very stubborn. They are both experienced photographers.

Pardon the lack of intelligence on this matter ,but what about the clarity, contrast , brightness , saturation , and hue ,what should those be set at. 😀

I have a friend who owns a D7100, and his everyday lens is a Nikon 28-300mm. It never leaves his camera body.

Are you shooting raw? If so then you'll need to just accept the fact that all raw images need sharpening. In fact they need post processing, yes all of them. But if you say your shooting jpg and none of your images are sharp, then you might have a problem. Why don't you post some here and let us see? Don't forget to check the box that says (store original)

That is interesting getting that from both cameras. I would like to know how close the serial numbers are on each camera. Perhaps a manufacturers flaw?

Your lenses are not the problem. If your technique is good you could try fine tuning each lens to your D7100. Fine tuning the focus is relatively easy to do. You can check this site, your manual, or google it for instructions.

There is a common denominator as it is very unlikely that all of those lenses be soft. Technique is one common denominator. Another is the camera body. It is possible the camera is out of cal.

Please post some examples. People here will help you determine if the issue is technique.

Rent or borrow another D7100, try your lenses on it and see there is any difference. That will tell you if the body is out of cal.
