You can't judge your lenses without testing them on a tripod. When you do, be sure to turn off the VR.
I have the 18-55 VR and the 1.8 35mm G lenses. They are great glass, but if your hands are unsteady they will let you know. I will henceforth buy only VR lenses, as age is affecting my hands.

It is entirely possible that one of the lenses may be defective, but certainly not all. I would work on my technique before I sold them.
