I had hoped someone would check in from the Ozarks...it's the closest to me for fall color. The neighborhood trees popped out 2 days ago here...and then 50% of the leaves promptly blew off. We too had a very wet summer and dry fall with the heat wave. Colors here are dull as well. The native trees aren't really worth a mention.

Do you have any news regarding the hillsides?
Thanks!

Spent last Monday through Wednesday in Eureka Springs, AR but very little color. The trees looked to be slightly more colorful when we left but I would guess next weekend or the following would be peak. Arkansas Tourism sends a weekly color report this time of year that covers the whole state and progress of colors. Subscribe on their website. The Talimena Scenic Byway was a beautiful drive but there was no color.

Thanks for the report! It's looking like Arkansas or the Smokies for me.

More pics from Canada. This is a shot of a rooftop garden in Vancouver BC. The colours/colors have definitely changed in Canada. They are much more vivid on download.

Very unique shot. Thanks for sharing. :-)

Having lived in Bowie County neat Texarkana and in San Antonio, foliage is not much to speak of in either place. With brown leaves falling and drifting in the breeze, green is the dominant color for the growing season. But, in the Texas winter, the freezing rains sometimes create spectacular crystal trees, if you can only get the sun to come out to light up the beautiful attraction before it all melts off! Living in Maine, we hardly ever get the light coats of ice to see such a marvel. When we get ice, we seem to get it in blocks to bend and break the branches as in our Ice Storm of (Jan) '98 that took months to restore power and years not to see the effects of all the breakage! Fall may be dull, but winter holds promise!

Northwest Arkansas (I'm not there now) usually peaks in late October. It doesn't get much national press, but it can be awesome, especially viewing from atop a mountain. (If you go try to visit Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville.)

Larry....I grew up in Oklahoma. Those ice storms can be legendary. We lived in the country at one point and had a total electric house. It was a week before we had heat from one of those storms. The iced trees do make for some nice pictures. They are calling for a snowy winter here in Kansas...we will see. Kansas doesn't seem to have the same propensity to ice storms or at least this far north it doesn't. I like snow as well and am planning a trip to Yellowstone in January.

Yes it can be...hopefully it won't follow the trend of dull to brown and falling off that seems to be pervasive. Thanks for the tip on the museum. I have heard good things about it.
